November 2014
Dear <<First Name>>,

Thanksgiving centers around two of my favorite things - family and food. Since my usual focus in this newsletter is family, I thought I would spend a few minutes today on food.

I grew up at a time when getting dinner on the table quickly for two working parents meant using a microwave for almost everything, and many of our dinners consisted of rubbery chicken and overcooked veggies (sorry, Mom). When we did have time to use the oven and cook fresh food from scratch, everything tasted so much better.

In honor of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share this video recipe I filmed for my friend (and sometimes client) Aviva Goldfarb, owner of the Six O'Clock Scramble, an amazing meal planning service. Though I love to eat, I don't love to cook, often because I'm not sure of what I'm doing.

This video recipe is my gift to you - an easy to make, delicious alternative to traditional turkey, with a great idea for a tasty side dish. This healthier version of chicken parmesan with brussel sprouts is so easy to make with Aviva coaching you along the way, it might become your go-to recipe, as it has for me.
Aviva is also the person who introduced me to the recently released "Fed Up," a fascinating documentary about the alarming spread of obesity, the dangers lurking behind "healthy foods" and the huge impact sugar has on all of us. I share this because I think so many of us are trying to eat healthier these days but often don't understand what "healthy" truly means. This movie really forced me to think about my own eating habits and has changed the way I'm eating (so you may want to wait until after Thanksgiving to watch it!)

Even if your first love is not cooking, I want to remind you that great stories often come out by just hanging out in the kitchen. Chopping vegetables, waiting for the turkey to roast, or even doing the dishes - these are the moments when family members often share their thoughts. Aim to be in the kitchen more this Thanksgiving and seize those moments to connect with your family and learn some things you never knew. (And even if you don't hear a good story, at least you'll be closer to getting some of the leftovers!)

I'm off to Atlanta to spend Thanksgiving with my husband's family, and looking forward to spending time in the kitchen with open ears.
Have a wonderful holiday!
