The Disability Tax Credit Certificate

In 2012, Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) collaborated with the Canadian Academy of Audiology (CAA) to develop a tip sheet that helps answer audiologists' questions about the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) Certificate. This fall, SAC and CAA revised this document to reflect some changes to the DTC application, and to add new information to the sheet. We're pleased to share the updated tip sheet with you.

Background

The DTC is a non-refundable tax credit for qualified individuals. To apply for the DTC, an individual must fill out and submit the DTC Certificate Form T2201. A qualified practitioner must sign off on the form before the individual can submit it to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Many audiologists certifying the form for their patients or clients have expressed concern that the language used in the DTC certificate is unclear. Our tip sheet aims to provide clarity and helpful information for audiologists.

DTC Consultations: Have Your Say

The CRA is currently holding public consultations on the DTC process. We encourage members to participate in these consultations to help improve the process and protect people with disabilities from paying excessive fees for assistance with a DTC request. SAC will be meeting with CRA on December 11, 2014, so please send your comments to chantal@sac-oac.ca by December 9, 2014. Alternately, you can participate directly with CRA. Learn more about the consultations here.
