Introducing the Newsletter
For those of you who attended the reunion, it was so much fun reconnecting...
For those of you who missed it...we hope to see you at some future event...
Most of all - some of us just want to stay in touch...
Since the reunion, we have tried to keep you informed regarding classmates and events, but only some of you go to our website, www.hopkinshigh62.com, or to our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/188901251151017/ , and while you are welcome to join these groups at any time, in the interest of reaching more of you, we have created this newsletter. We would like to use the newsletter to facilitate the conveying of information about special events and classmate activity.
We welcome contributions from everyone, so if you have information you want to relay to us, something you want to say, or a column you want to write, this could be a forum for you. We are mainly interested in events coming up, classmate news, activities, anything about Hopkins that you think would be of interest, and you can even send us a pic of the trophy fish you caught while on vacation. You can email us at HHS62@outlook.com. We are hoping to have bimonthly mailings, but may send out additional notices when necessary.

’Til the River Runs Dry with author John Freivalds, husband of Margo Mogush Freivalds
Wednesday, July 17, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m at The Marsh
It’s a joy to share the story of a life fully embraced, especially when it’s told by a friend and member of The Marsh. John Freivalds has penned his fifth book, ’Til the River Runs Dry, a memoir of the exceptional and adventurous life of Margo Mogush Freivalds, his spouse of 20 years. At age 42, dissatisfied by the corporate rat race, Margo dropped out and decided to backpack alone through Asia for a year. She kept copious diaries of everything she experienced in life. Rather than being left to lie in a steamer trunk, John brought them to life in his book. He wrote it for two reasons: To tell Margo’s story who died 12 days from a cancer diagnosis, and to heal from grief. John hopes readers will discover the positivity Margo saw in the world, and gain a perspective of living. Margo’s favorite quote (Mark Twain): “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.”

I am reminding all those from the magnificent class of 1962 of our gathering coming up in September 2013.
We know many will not travel a great distance to attend a two, three or four hour gathering, but just in case you are in the area, or even close, save the date, if you can. (This is an attempt to keep everyone in the loop!)
Saturday, September 14th, 2013 at 5:00PM, we are 'gathering' at TUTTLE'S in Hopkins to just say hi, mingle, talk, bowl or whatever! (As a class, let's try to hold down on the 'whatever'!)

It's Never Too Late to Follow a Dream
In 1996 I married my second husband, Joe Jackson, and our house was located near a private airport in Oro Valley, AZ. I had always been interested in airplanes since reading a book in sixth grade about a young girl who started flying at that age. Joe and I would drive to the airport and chat with pilots hanging out in their hangars talking about their airplanes, their previous flights, WW II stories, Viet Nam, politics, etc. In 2006, when I received an inheritance from my parents’ estate, I had enough funding to learn how to fly. At that time I was 62 years old. The first thing I did was to enter ground school at the Marana Airport. I passed my FAA written exam in November 2006. At the same time I started flying lessons with a female certified flight instructor, and flew a Cherokee 140 and a Cherokee160. The first time I took off with her, I was so excited, that I shrieked with excitement and started crying, which made my instructor start crying too. By the way, that doesn’t happen to any of her male students. In order to save money on lessons, instead of renting an airplane for $100/hour, I decided to purchase my own Cessna 172 Skyhawk. Because I had soloed in the Cherokee first, I then had to solo again in the Skyhawk. In April 2008 I passed my FAA check ride for a third class private pilot license. I am still flying even though I lost my husband in April this year, who was an FAA certified airplane mechanic. I was considering selling my Cessna, but flying makes me so happy, and I can get enough help at the Marana and Benson airports to handle the maintenance. I am looking for passengers; if you are in the area, please let me know and I’ll be happy to take you out for a spin. I fly early in the day when the wind is low and the air smooth.

Passings:
Mike Miles passed away June 23, 2013. He is being transported to Mpls. The reviewal will be Thursday 6/27 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the David Lee Funeral Home in Wayzata. The service will be Friday morning 10:00 am at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley followed by interment. Colleen said there will be a tribute and celebration of Mike's life at a restaurant following the interment. Those of you in the Mpls area please watch the paper for the official notice. She said there will be more information in that notice.
It is with sadness that I report that three additional classmates have passed away since the reunion:
