Gillette launches new coaching grants scheme

Gillette has announced its ‘Great Start’ programme which celebrates the role of coaching and supports coaching excellence by offering coaching grants awarded through the scheme. The announcement marks the second year of Gillette’s partnership with sports coach UK.

Biffa Award Small Grants

The scheme offers grants of between £250 and £5000 to support improvements and access to local amenities such as a community building, nature reserve, cycle path, playground, cultural facility or outdoor space.

Tesco Charity Community Awards (UK)
 
The Tesco Charity Community Awards for grants for children’s welfare and/or children’s educations (including special needs schools) re-opened with an application deadline of the 30th June 2013.

Through the Awards, one-off donations of between £500 and £4,000 are available to local projects that support children and their education and welfare. Previous projects supported have included
  • sensory garden or room projects;
  • outdoor classrooms;
  • breakfast and after school clubs;
  • holiday play-schemes; and
  • part funding to purchase minibuses.
The Tesco Charity Trust has been in existence since 1987 and aims to provide approximately £600,000 in grants each year. In addition the Trust also provides grants to groups working with and supporting elderly people and/or adults and children with disabilities.

New Look Foundation Grants (England and Wales)

The New Look Foundation is open to applications from schools, community groups, and charities registered in England and Wales. The Foundation seeks to support:
  • educational activities aimed at helping people to help themselves;
  • activities aimed at generating local communities and promoting a positive 'community spirit';
  • activities which help people to feel included in local community life who might otherwise feel excluded; and
  • activities which promote positive self-esteem and confidence.
Applications can be submitted at any time.

ECB invests £96m in community cricket

The English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) £96m in community cricket over the next four years.

ASA calls for PE funding to be focused on swimming

The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) has called for PE funding to be focused on swimming after a survey revealed that half of te UK’s children aged seven to 11 cannot swim the length of a standard pool.

Sir Keith Mills offers key research that grassroots sport funding pays

Sir Keith Mills, the deputy chairman of the London 2012 organising committee, has unveiled the results of a three-year research project that he says proves billions could be saved by the Treasury if more money was invested in grassroots sport projects.

HMRC wants views to improve CASC scheme for grassroots clubs

HMRC has launched a public consultation on the Community Amateur Sports Club scheme. The document can be found on the HMRC websiteand will run for ten weeks until 12 August.
