Foresight and Regional Integration III

On Africa Day (25 May), South Africa and her partner countries were appointed as joint host of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project, with Australia. The Minister of Science and Technology, Hon. Naledi Pandor, said in her statement: “It also fits in well with the African agenda as we celebrate the 49th anniversary of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity and the 10th anniversary of the African Union.”

FFD kicks off the June issue of our newsletter with an interview with Dr. Leonard Martin, content manager at the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA), on the importance of regional integration in (Southern) Africa. The significance of foresight in regional integration is also looked at. This is the third article in a series on regional integration (Issue I) (Issue II).

And on 15 June we bring you an interview on the role a project such as the SKA can play in terms of regional integration.

South African Node of the millennium project's new website launched

We are pleased to announce that our new website is finally up and running. All the hard work and dedication of our web development team has finally paid off to present you with the website, which you can view here. It features a cleaner and simpler look and feel and we hope it represents the information you look for in an easier to use way. There is still additional functionality that we would like to add over the next 6 months, such as an expanded members’ area and an online shop that boasts a lot more material, as well as greater back-end integration. We will keep you posted, but in the meantime, please have a look and send us your comments.

Invitation to the 2012 Global SOFI Real-Time Delphi

You are invited to help create the 2012 Global State of the Future Index compiled by the Millennium Project through your participation in a Real-Time Delphi (RTD) process. This RTD asks you to estimate the best and worse value in ten years for 28 Variables and to estimate the probability, importance, and the world's readiness to address 21 potential developments that could affect these variables. Provide reasons for your answers where possible and you can return many times to see others' answers and edit your own, so you are not limited to a once-off exercise as is often the case with similar requests.

We are looking for participation by experts from the following fields of knowledge: demographics and human resources, environmental studies, science and technology, governance and security, economics, and general futures who work for institutions such as universities, governments, businesses, NGOs, UN and other international organizations.

You can access the RTD at www.realtimedelphi.org and use the study code: 2012SOFI (4 numbers and 4 Capital letters). The study is open now and will run to the end of June.
