The Alaskan Relay

August 21, 2008, Beijing, China.  The U.S. Olympic Team is competing in the semi-finals of the Men’s 4 x 100 relay in the 2008 Olympics.  Third man Darvis Patton passes the baton to anchor Tyson Gay, and the baton falls to the ground.  For the first time since 1988, the U.S. men fail to make it to the final 4 x 100 to compete for a medal.

The U.S. Olympic Team is competing in the semi-finals of the Women’s 4 x 100 relay in the 2008 Olympics.  Third woman Torri Edwards passes the baton to anchor Lauryn Williams, and the baton falls to the ground.  For the first time since 1948, the U.S. women fail to make it to the final 4 x 100 to compete for a medal.

Yes, you read that right.  Two failed baton passes in one night!
May 2-5, 2013, Palmer, AK.  Three new missionary couples and one potential new couple met with approximately 40 veteran missionaries at InterAct’s Annual Alaska Field Missions Conference.  As the conference progressed, we were blessed by stories of God’s faithfulness, by lessons learned by both mistakes and successes of the past, and by the hearts of the veterans for the work of God in Alaska.  The veterans were also blessed by the energy and excitement of us younger folks and the passion for the work ahead of us.  Both veterans and rookies grew closer and recognized that each of us must run with earnest our leg of the race.  Each of us has a part in the passing of the baton, and unless both do their part correctly, the baton could potentially fall to the ground.

We don’t know how long our race is, but we do know that this is not the last baton pass.  More Native leaders must be trained and made ready for the baton to be passed to them.  With that training and growth in Christ, they will be able to pass the baton to others.  Please pray that all of the Alaska team would run with patience the race that is set before us.

Summer Plans

About the second week of June, we are planning to head back up to Redding, CA, and establish a base there for (most likely) the rest of the summer.  This will put us within one day’s drive to most of California, Oregon, and Nevada, giving us availability to those places for church presentations.  Please pray we don’t melt in the Redding heat!

May 19, 10:45a - Gateway Community Church, El Cajon, CA
May 26, 9:30a, 10:45a - Calvary Baptist Church, Oceanside, CA
June 30 - Grace Community Bible Church, Burney, CA

To the Praise of His Glory,
