In Other Words lives up to its 'stories told and retold' tagline, we sow some literary seeds for Early Harvest and it's a wrap-up at National Volunteer Week. Also, have you noticed we look virtually different?
And finally, if you are wandering around the Reading Matters conference, or getting your write on at the Emerging Writers' Festival, make sure you say hello!

If you were in Footscray this week you may have seen some children running down the street. Why were they running? Because they didn’t want to be late for Early Harvest. You know you’re onto something when kids run into a workshop. This award-winning literary magazine by children for readers of all ages is back for 2013, and we’re excited to be partnering again with Davina Bell and Emma Hewitt to deliver this project. Since February, Grade 6 students at Dinjerra Primary School have been investigating what it means to be a volunteer. In a star-studded* feature at the Sun Theatre during National Volunteer Week, we crossed live** to Dinjerra students as they interviewed volunteers from across the west of Melbourne. Keep an eye out for these interviews coming to a screen*** near you! Read more about Put Your Hands in the Air ...
* The Mayor of Maribyrnong came. And there were cupcakes. The cupcakes were star-studded.
** Yep, students were all sitting there watching themselves talk about crossing live.
*** Look, we’ll probably upload them to our site. So it’ll be showing on your own, personal screen near you very, very soon.

Well, you haven’t been listening to the Prep-Grade 1 students of Dinjerra Primary School tell stories. We recommend you do. This month we shared this story with Kids Book Review ...

Alice Pung transfixed participants at our memoir workshop this month with her wonderful way of drawing out ideas and giving feedback on their writing. They were all so motivated that emails were exchanged, and Alice may just have inspired the very first 100 Story Studio writers group.
‘We benefited from individual attention’ -Robyn
‘Alice has a wonderful ability to teach you how to bring your stories to life’ -Emma
Sharpen your pencils for the next 100 Story Studio workshop with Hilary Rogers and Marisa Pintado from Hardie Grant Egmont. It’s on pitching and synopsis-writing for early and emerging writers. Book now.

100 Thanks
Notice something different about us? Why yes, we have had a virtual makeover! That’s why this month we’re throwing out a profusion of thank yous to our pro-bono partners Truly Deeply and Thinking Man. And it wouldn’t have worked without the wonderful artists who contributed illustrations. Thank you. You guys rock.

Volunteer With Us!
Volunteers! We are still looking for you and thinking of you, but until we open our centre for young writers opportunities are limited.
There will be some opportunities to work with us on Early Harvest and In Other Words between June and September. To work on these projects you will need to have completed our volunteer process. Those of you who have, stay tuned! Contact us if you have any questions.
