Peter Varghese Australia India Institute Oration

On the 16th of May, Mr. Peter Varghese AO, the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, delivered the annual A.I.I Oration in Melbourne. In his talk, Mr Varghese, acknowledged the A.I.I's many initiatives in building closer ties with India, and referred to recent polling commissioned by A.I.I that has given insights into India public opinion about relations with Australia.  Book Launch – The Great Indian Phone Book

On 12th June, 2013 at 6pm-7pm, A.I.I's Christopher Kremmer will host the launch at Readings Bookshop, 309 Lygon St, Carlton of Assa Doron and Robin Jeffrey's new publication The Great Indian Phone Book. The book, which looks at the effects of mobile phone technology on Indian society, will be launched by Sally Warhaft. Read More and Register.
Indian MPs visit A.I.I 
 
The A.I.I, in collaboration with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi – Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australia India Council, is currently hosting a delegation of high level Indian Parliamentarians in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra between the 31 May-5 June, 2013. The visit began in Melbourne, with a two-hour lunch and roundtable discussion at the A.I.I office.
A.I.I's Submission on Australia’s India Strategy
 
The A.I.I has sent a two-stage strategy to Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade for closer ties with India. The strategy advocates a national rollout of A.I.I programs which have been proven successful in Victoria. It proposes expansion of relations with a refinanced and restructured A.I.I becoming a National Centre for Research and Dialogue on India.                                                   
Mattoo’s Scorching Summer yatra across India
 
A.I.I. Director, Professor Amitabh Mattoo spent a productive ten days in India with a blistering program to match the intense heat of May.
