CT Vrede and PSA Antwerp sign MoU

On Tuesday 9 April 2013, CT Vrede and PSA Antwerp signed a Memorandum of Understanding to clinch their cooperation. The parties hereby commit themselves to optimize and further develop the barge container shuttle service between PSA Antwerp terminals (Q420, Q869, Q913, Q1742) and the CT Vrede locations in Amsterdam and Zaandam.

More in particular, PSA Antwerp and CT Vrede will jointly detect and attract additional volume for this shuttle. Both partners will also investigate a system of volume 'push' instead of volume 'pull' and put into practice a cross-border simplified customs procedure.

For more info regarding this connection, please contact PSA Antwerp's commercial department.

PSA & Naviland Cargo Event Lyon

Naviland Cargo and PSA recently renewed their cooperation agreement to provide efficient, reliable train services between the Belgian ports and inland destinations in France. Already today, 25 shuttle trains per week connect Antwerp and/or Zeebrugge with Lyon, Dourges, Paris, Marseille, Fos and Bordeaux.

PSA/Naviland Cargo invited French customers from the Rhône-Alpes region for an information event in Lyon. Starting with a terminal tour of the Lyon Vénissieux terminal, about 70 participants attended information sessions about customs and dangerous goods procedures in Belgium.

Mr Paul Mazataud, Managing Director of the 'Rail Corridor C', explained the expected improvements to be gained from the dedicated Corridor C between Belgium and Lyon as of November 2013. A networking dinner event concluded the evening. We were pleased to notice that all attendees enjoyed this event!

Launching customer for PSA Antwerp-Munich connection

PSA Antwerp's brand new barge-rail product, connecting Antwerp with Nuremberg/Munich, successfully took off with launching customer Schmidt Group. 'We opted for this service because we try to avoid long-haul truck transports as much as possible. This new product offers a reliable and cost-efficient solution that connects the port of Antwerp with the Bayern area - an important region for our company', says Mr. Erwin Jansen from Schmidt Group.

With a frequency of 3 roundtrips per week, the PSA Antwerp - Nuremberg/Munich service connects PSA Antwerp terminals Q420, Q869, Q913, Q1742 with the Tricon terminal in Nuremberg and the DUSS terminal in Munich. In order to align the barge connection with the existing TX Logistik rail product, PSA Antwerp coordinates the barge flow between Antwerp and CTT Rotterdam.

For more info regarding this connection, please contact PSA Antwerp's commercial department.

PSA Antwerp handles container with ancient ice cores

On 24 April 2013, a reefer container carrying 'white gold' from the icy depts of Antarctica, passed through PSA Antwerp's Deurganck terminal. Shipped by Maersk Line, the sensitive cargo had to maintain a constant temperature with a maximum of -24°C.

The ice samples were drilled from the 800m thick ice sheets covering Antarctica, and are like gold in scientific value: each containing up to 150,000 years of compressed snowfall. The shipment will be used in glaciology studies at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium. But before scientists can begin their work, the precious cargo first had to cross the globe from South to North in what turned out to be quite an exciting mission for all parties involved.

After travelling half the globe, the ice cores reached PSA Antwerp's Deurganck terminal onboard the 'Maersk Seoul'. Disconnecting from the vessel's power line, discharging, transport to the container yard, reconnecting to the reefer plugs and temperature monitoring was managed by PSA Antwerp in an impressive 8 minutes and 30 seconds.

Thanks to Maersk Line's advanced reefer innovation and a successful blend of both technology and teamwork with PSA Antwerp, this highly sensitive cargo reached the science laboratory in perfect condition.
