Paul believes art is “more than the physical act of painting, sculpting, poetry, composing, or performing music, or drama. “For me art is an expression of my thoughts, my feelings and my faith and how I see the world…I find abstracts to be my favorite form of expression … I do not approach it with a preconceived notion … but allow inspiration to lead my hands.” He will be here for June’s Art Hop ready to discuss his work.

Exhibiting work by artists Marilyn McGrady and Tim Williams. From the artist, Marilyn McGrady, "These are watercolor paintings on an experimental paper called YUPO. Since YUPO is more plastic than paper, the paint moves freely, mingling and forming wonderful, spontaneous effects. When finished, they are quite fragile and must be handled with care to avoid smearing off or being spattered. In this way they are like the wetlands, fragile and always changing, so it seemed fitting to use this medium." Marilyn Prescott McGrady 2013.

Franka Gabler - “California Vignettes”. Born and raised in Croatia, Franka M. Gabler developed a fascination, admiration, and respect for nature early in her life. Her family owned a 30-foot sailing boat, and spent their summer vacations cruising the countless islands off the Adriatic coast. Her life was all about the sea, swimming for hours in pristine waters of Croatia, sailing, conquering the wind, and finding shelter from the storms in secluded bays. After moving to California in 1997, she thought that she would never be able to experience the beauty and connect to the nature as she did back in her home country. You can see more of her work at www.frankagabler.com

Studio 74
1274 N Van Ness Avenue - 908-0658
Mixed Media Artist, Myrna Axt, presents, Thinking Inside the Box and Mid-Century Modern, opening June 6, for ArtHop at Studio 74. The theme, Thinking Inside the Box, conjures up inspirational configurations and the resurrections of found objects..ALL created inside a box. The Mid-Century Modern exhibit is an invitation to reflect on the objects and remember the simplicity of the 50’s. Geometric paintings of the of the time are also represented. Keeping to her assemblage tradition, Ms. Axt uses cooking utensils, a wood ironing board, and the top to an old gas stove, to fuse these cultural artifacts with advertising of the day. Isn’t housework fun? Women wearing pretty dresses, aprons, heels and boasting big smiles, shows the absurdity of how women were portrayed in advertising. Ms. Axt hopes the viewer will gain an appreciation of the 50‘s, and spend some time thinking about how far we have come as a society.
