» The power of just doing stuff: Crystal Palace launch

Rob Hopkins' new book 'The Power of Just Doing Stuff: how local action can change the world' was officially launched at the end of June in the Grain and Grape pub in Crystal Palace. Hosted by our fellow London Transitioners, a group of TTK’s ventured out to hear Rob speak. The evening also featured a talk by Agamemnon Otero from Brixton Energy, short project summaries from various members of CPTT, a Q&A and music from Franck Alba.

Rather than being about how to do Transition, the book focuses on why doing Transition is thrilling and the sense of power and possibility it can bring about. Illustrated with stories from around the world, it really captures how international Transition has become, the impact it is starting to have, and how, in the current economic malaise, it represents a bold new idea for our economic future.

» 'Pocket Park' grants

As part of the Mayor of London’s drive to create 100 ‘Pocket Parks’ across the capital, local community groups are being invited to come forward and apply for a community grant of up to £20,000.    The £450,000 community fund is part of a £2m investment from City Hall to bring 100 underused urban spaces back into use by March 2015.  Normally the size of a tennis court these ‘Pocket Parks’ create small green retreats for the local community to enjoy, making the capital an even better place to live and work.

The deadline for applications is 17:00 on 23rd July 2013. For details of how to apply, please Download the Pocket Parks application pack ›
