Latest commission

Tord Boontje adds a splash of neon to Paediatric Critical Care

We are delighted to announce that our latest commission by Tord Boontje is now complete. This stunning installation started taking shape back in February and consists of a sequence of vibrant vinyl flora and fauna in an eclectic mix of bright colours.

Alluding to renewal and growth, the work contains animals and elements in energising colours for children to find and discover. The larger drawings are very finely detailed and invite you to discover new elements day after day.
Over the past few months Boontje has added 3-dimensional elements to the installation such as laser cut creatures in shiny neon and matt Perspex, this has created layers and shadows within the piece which has added depth and interest to the hospital walls.

This site specific commission by Tord Boontje for Vital Arts can be found in the paediatric critical care unit at the Royal London Hospital where it is being enjoyed by the children, parents and staff of Barts Health.

The Song Weaver
Spitalfields Music

Over the years we have been developing a strong music programme for our under fives at the Royal London Hospital. This spring and summer we have been working with Spitalfields Music to deliver twenty interactive music sessions to young patients and their parents across the oncology and gastro wards and with premature babies. We will be creating a CD Resource for parents, staff and Speech and Language Therapists. Our Song Weaver makes friends with a little, quiet cloud that has lost his thunder and takes a trip to the moon! Both the story and the songs were written with young patients and their families at the hospital and we look forward to sharing this with you in the autumn.
