Volunteering Benefits You!

Dear <<First Name>>,

As the school year wraps up and weekend get-aways start to get planned, we would like to gently encourage you to set aside some time this summer to volunteer.

Volunteering Benefits You!
As you may know, community service organizations offer their services and programs year-round and this time of year is the perfect opportunity for you to get involved by sharing your skills and talents.

Volunteering not only benefits others, but it can also be of benefit to YOU!  You can explore a cause that you feel passionate about; you can gain extra volunteer hours to put towards your community service requirement for high school; you can explore a new career and gain valuable work experience.

Volunteer MBC is here to help! Our on-line volunteer opportunity database is available 24/7. You can visit one of our three convenient locations to meet with our team so we can help you find the right match.

For more information including our address details and access to our on-line database, visit us www.volunteermbc.org or give us a call at 905.238.2622.

Please note that our volunteer centres will be closed on Monday, July 1. Have a fantastic Canada Day long weekend!

Peel Youth Rock!

We would like to extend thanks and appreciation to all of the youth who participated in the ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge. For four weeks starting on April 21 through to May 20 youth aged 14 to 18 years all across Ontario participated in the 6th Annual ChangeTheWorld – Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge. The campaign is an initiative to encourage youth to volunteer through a wide variety of exciting local initiatives.

Volunteer MBC, one of the 23 volunteer centres who participated in this year’s campaign, is pleased to announce that in the Region of Peel there were 7,264 youth who volunteered 25,521 hours at 167 events in the community. This is an increase of 40% more youth volunteering during ChangeTheWorld over last year’s results.
ChangeTheWorld

“Youth in Peel have, once again, proven that they can make a huge difference in our community,” said Carine Strong, Executive Director of Volunteer MBC. “We also saw an increase of youth taking action by creating their own events for causes that they felt passionate about, which really speaks to the overall goal of the campaign – to be the change that youth wish to see in their communities. We would like to commend all of the youth in Peel for taking action to change their world.”

Special thanks to all of the schools, community service organizations and partners who made this year’s ChangeTheWorld campaign a success.

Volunteer Spotlight

Bonnie Yagar
Recently, an article in the Mississauga News featured our very own Bonnie Yagar, Board President of Volunteer MBC. Bonnie is an amazing example of how "you get more than you give" through volunteering.

She’s a tireless advocate for those that need a hand up, not a hand out. Bonnie volunteers her time and talent to not only Volunteer MBC, but also to the Community Foundation of Mississauga and Community Living Mississauga. She was one of the original Steering Committee members who helped form Volunteer MBC and has contributed greatly to our volunteer centre.

When asked why she volunteers, her response was simply "I do it because I can."

Volunteer MBC’s Step Up Youth Volunteer Ambassador Program:
Our Step Up Youth Volunteer Ambassador program was developed to boost youth engagement and volunteerism in Peel Region. But only youth can help us change the world by inspiring their peers, putting together amazing events and initiatives, and becoming leaders in their communities. We want YOU to become one of these world-changing leaders!
