Half Moon
There is lots of good news for young people in East London and those associated with Half Moon this month. Our Lunar Youth Theatre are participating in the Five Boroughs Youth Theatre Festival with their play, Fugee. We received a grant from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation to fund our Careers in Theatre programme. We have announced an apprenticeship opportunity to work with Half Moon and our Road Safety film is now available to watch online as part of our effort for Child Safety Week. You can read more about all of these below.

Fugee
Mon 1 July - Tue 2 July, 7pm     FREE

Fugee by Lunar Youth Theatre
By Abi Morgan
Directed by Vishni Velada-Billson
Performed by Half Moon's Lunar Youth Theatre

Through the use of ensemble, multi-roleing and physical performance, the large cast tell the stories of young asylum seekers in the UK; unaccompanied minors who fight to stay in control of their lives past, present and future.
When 14 year old Kojo tumbles into the UK ‘system’ with no official papers, and no words in English, he is housed in a refuge for under-age asylum seekers. With new friends Cheung and Ara by his side he begins to reconcile his past and find pleasure in the present. But then the system starts to break down… Fugee expresses the reality of slipping through the net; a story of lost dreams, lost countries and a generation of lost children who walk the pavements of London.
The performance contains some strong language and therefore may not be suitable for children under the age of 12.

The performance is free to attend but reserving tickets is advised.

Evacuee with Children
East London children learn from war evacuees

Last week children from St John’s Primary School in Bethnal Green brought to life the experiences – both sad and joyful – of people who were evacuated from London as children during World War II.

Drama-based workshops run by Half Moon and London Play during the project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, saw pupils explore the realities of life for children in 1940s London.
