STEPS Summer school welcomed 44 students from 22 countries
Our second summer school gathered an exceptional group of people developing ideas on pathways to sustainability. Through lectures, walks, discussions and public events, participants explored science, society and development. Resources, including video, Storify and photos, are available on the website and the application process for our May 2014 Summer School opens this autumn.

Future Earth has announced its inaugural science committee, with STEPS director Melissa Leach serving as vice-chair. The 10-year research programme aims to provide the critical knowledge needed to address global environmental change.

New project: Low carbon innovation in China
A new ESRC-funded collaboration between UK and Chinese researchers will explore the extent, nature and social implications of low-carbon transitions in China by comparing government-led, high-tech 'indigenous innovation' approaches with emergent, lower-tech approaches from agriculture, energy and mobility.
