Paddock, Garden and Compost Worms image 1

Hugely entertaining speaker who was a Landcare awards finalist last year. His latest book is
Earthworms in Tasmanian Agriculture

the committee meeting on 9th August reports
  • we have a positive balance in the kitty of some $400 so we are keeping the entry fee steady although the cost of hall hire has gone up and now granting committee members free entry in recognition of all their hard work, and there will be a free members only morning tea and meeting in January in Robert Millet's Devonport garden so save the date! :)
  • We are looking for a bigger venue in the penguin/ulverstone area - it would be good to have this finalised if we are going to move before the insurance for the Railway Station venue comes due in January; current suggestions include the Penguin school. Send any others in by email.
  • Allan Wilton is taking on the secretarial duties. He will also be taking us all for the annual weed walk for the September Meeting.
  • Ingrid is stepping down as treasurer next year - we need someone to take over by June please. It's very straight forward - no special skills required. Ingrid will show you the ropes and you will get free entry as a committee member to all meetings. Please email me for details if you are interested.
  • As always although Rodger does such a fantastic job of finding us interesting speakers, (see website for what's coming) suggestions for speakers or topics most welcome - we still have a vacant slot for November this year and February onwards 2014.

cheers, Carolyn

Coconut Mayonnaise
Last year we had an Astro presentation on Coconut oil - you will find notes in the archives. I think I'll try a batch of this for next meeting. The author, Sarah promises this will not go impossibly firm in the fridge although it contains plenty of awesome coconut oil

Servings: 1 1/2 cups
Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Place the eggs, mustard, lemon juice, salt, and pepper into a food processor or blender. Blend briefly for a few seconds.

With the processor or blender running on low speed, start adding your oils very slowly. Start out with drops and then work up to about a 1/16-inch stream. This will take a few minutes.

Continue blending until all the oil is used up and there is no free standing oil.
