Fill It. Tilt It. That's How We Roll!

Hillsborough County is looking for homeowners associations, civic groups and service clubs that would like to talk trash.

Beginning Oct. 1, 2013, Hillsborough County will be rolling out automated collection of garbage and recyclables in the County’s Solid Waste service area. Wheeled carts - a 95-gallon gray cart for garbage and a 65-gallon blue cart for recyclables – will be delivered to homes beginning in August.

The cart for recyclables heralds an expanded recycling program that will be convenient and easy – no more sorting into separate colored containers, and an end to lifting and carrying heavy bins.

Saving Money and Improving Lives

An innovative Mental Health Jail Diversion program was unanimously approved by County Commissioners at their June 19th meeting.

The Commission agreed to fund a partnership with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office to get help for citizens who would otherwise be incarcerated for local ordinance and misdemeanor violations and who present with substance abuse and mental health disorders.

The cost effective program will help to reduce demand on judicial and corrections resources. Citizens in the diversion program will get mental health assessments, referrals, case management and mental health care.

The program is funded at $335,000 annually (for three years) and the money will come from the County's Indigent Health Care Trust Fund.
