News update from Sarah Hearn: Paseo Feast #5, Rare Earth at Plug Projects, and New Taxonomy, at Mid-America Arts Alliance.

Paseo Feast #5

Please join me at Joey's Pizzeria, on July 16 at 6PM:

Paseo Feast is a locally sourced dinner that funds emerging art with a vote. With your support, this could be me!  The last feast sold out, so buy tickets soon!

What would you be funding exactly? The purchase of a new camera to document lichens for the collaborative development of  “Field Guide: Lichens of Oklahoma”.

This resource will contain accurate science, aesthetically interesting photographs, hand-drawn illustrations and clear keying techniques for citizen researchers and professional scientists alike.

Help call attention to these unknown marvels populating 8% of our terrestrial world!

Rare Earth at PLUG Projects

In mid-May, I installed science fiction inspired, cut-paper lichen colonies in a group exhibition at Plug Projects in Kansas City, MO. I am pleased to be exhibiting among a wonderful group of fellow artists including: Andy Brayman, Mike Hein, Leigh Martin, Jason Pickleman, Cecelia Phillips, and Amy Ross. If you find yourself in Kansas City sometime in the next two weeks, drop by PLUG for a visit!

The exhibition closes July 6, 2013.

PLUG Projects  is a curatorial collaboration by: Amy Kligman, Cory Imig, Misha Kligman, Caleb Taylor, and Caitlin Horsmon. These 5 Kansas City-based artists share the mission of bringing fresh perspectives and conversation to the local art community. They are a fabulous team to work with.

New Taxonomy at M-AAA

June 1- December 31, 2013: Mid-America Arts Alliance recently unveiled their sleekly renovated main office building in Kanasas City, MO. Curator Kathy Dowell saw this re-opening as an opportunity to feature work of artists from a few of the states impacted by M-AAA's programming. This partnership is timely with the recent launch of Artist INC live in OK and AR.

As a result, New Taxonomy will be on display in their offices through December. This work features a catalog of 118 marine organisms that contain and cooperate with the periodic table of elements. This piece is part of a larger body of work titled An Unnatural History. Upon installing the piece, I was struck by the enthusiasm and inquisitiveness expressed among the staff and visitors. It's a treat to share these creatures with such an engaged audience!

Dear Colleagues, Friends and Family,
Welcome to the official season of summer. Luckily for me this means more time to identify lichens, photograph the sky, draw, make hand-bound books and dream up new ideas! If you are interested in learning more about my work or if you'd like to visit my studio please contact me.
