Glen Helen Watercolours

Recent works to come out of Ngurratjuta include these stunning depictions of Glen Helen Gorge, a favourite piece of imagery for the watercolour artists to paint. Elton Wirriâ€™s work added to the NGV collection

This year, Elton Wirriâ€™s â€œStandley Chasmâ€ will be added to the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria. Elton also features in the Resale Royalty Campaign and is pictured in their advertisements for the governmentâ€™s review of the resale royalty system.

Exhibition at the Customs House Library - Sydney

A reminder for Sydney folk to get along to the Customs House Library, Level 1, in Sydney during NAIDOC celebrations. Ngurratjuta artists will be exhibiting their works there for the duration of NAIDOC events 1^st â€“ 31^st July, and on the 10^th of July a special evening with Di Stevens from Tali Gallery as she discusses Ngurratjuta Many Hands, and the watercolour tradition of Albert Namatjira's descendants that continues at Ngurratjuta.

Johannes Katakarinja

Ngurratjuta is saddened by the recent passing of the artist Johannes Katakarinja. He was born at Hermannsburg in 1956 and was the son of Yvonne Williams and Ambrose Katakarinja. From age 13 Johannes learnt to paint like his grandfathers and uncles. His mentor was his grandfather Walter Ebatarinja who he would meet at Palm Valley to paint with. Johannes also painted the Murial at Hermansburg Finke River Mission Store. The Name â€œKatakarinjaâ€ is the aboriginal name for Mt Zeil. Sadly Johannes passed away four weeks ago and is survived by a partner and family in Ntaria and Alice Springs. Ngurratjuta, the board, workers, artists and members extend their deepest condolences to Johannesâ€™s family. Paul Johnson Gallery

Darwin people check this out! Paul Johnstone Gallery in Darwin NT is hosting an exhibition of the Hermannsburg School of Watercolours, following in the tradition of the great Albert Namatjira. Featuring prominently in this exhibition will be the late Johannes Katakarinja. Ngurratjuta would like to commemorate this celebrated artist by showcasing his beautiful works alongside other artists as Peter Taylor, Gloria Pannka, Douglas Abbott and Lenie Namatjira. The exhibition also features Albertâ€™s contemporary Claude Pannka as well as his sons Oscar and Ewald Namatjira. The exhibition will run until 6th July. Painting above: Mt. Painting trip

Recently Ngurratjuta went bush for a painting trip with the Namatjira watercolour artists and some young men who are beginning to paint landscapes. We set up camp just 15 mins west of Alice Springs at the Claypans. With recent rainfall the pans were full and the artists produced some beautiful works of this unique setting. This workshop is the first in a series of intergenerational workshops between the senior watercolour artists and young Western Arrente people wanting to learn this style of painting. Shepparton Gallery

From Friday 21^st June to Sunday 25^th August the Shepparton Art Museum will showcase for the first time the extraordinary Indigenous art collection of Carrillo and Ziyin Gantner, Speaking in Colour. The exhibition features painting from the central and western deserts, including the work of Albert Namatjira and his family.
