The Annie Londonderry Ride!
A ride of women, to celebrate women!

WE Bike NYC and Bicycle Habitat invite you to join us on a ride through Summer Streets on August 10th, to commemorate the courage of the first female cyclist, Annie Londonderry, and mark how far things have come for female cyclists in the past 120 years! OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE 100 WOMEN RIDE, in celebration and solidarity, as living proof that women are a strong and rapidly growing sector of the cycling community. WE Bike NYC! Let's show it!

Things have come a long way since 1894, when Annie Cohen Kopchovsky (known as Annie Londonderry), was literally the first woman to circle the world on a bicycle. Her achievement marked an important milestone for female cyclists, as she turned the concept of Victorian propriety on its head by wearing pants, collecting sponsors, and traveling alone to the far reaches of the globe. By daring to be more than just an average housewife serving her husband and children, Annie paved the way for many women to embrace bicycles as a source of liberation and adventure.
Since May of 2012, WEBikeNYC has been uniting women riders across the five boroughs of NYC, many of whom had previously felt about as lonely as Annie was, like they were the only women on bikes out there.

Throughout the past year, WE have realized that there are many of us, and WE want to celebrate that roughly 25% of cyclists in NYC are female!

Everyone who pre-registers (it's FREE) will be entered into a special prize drawing! Register here: https://secure.jotformpro.com/form/31963652260959

Also this month, the BikeCult: Hand Built Show!

This is a really cool event to check out some of the best and most beautiful bicycles built by hand here in the US! This show is as much about art as it is about bikes, and a chance to check out some style you won't be able to see elsewhere! Plus, WE Bike NYC will have a table there, so you can come by and say hi to us as well!
