Ranging from approximately 500 square feet to 2,800 square feet, AKA has completed numerous fast food restaurants throughout the Chicagoland area in the past year.  The restaurants have been free standing and in strip centers wither in-line or end cap spaces.

Regulatory Updates which Matter to You and Your Projects:

  • We are finding that most Building Departments have very limited staff for the plan reviews. Once the plans are submitted for the Permitting, they are outsourced to the Consultants for review. Because of this we see added time for issuance of Building Permits.
  • City of Chicago Health Department has re-started their Health Department reviews again. If you are doing a Food Service Facility we advise you to submit your Application and Plans to Health Department immediately. This is an independent process and is not part of the main Permitting process.
  •  For most Permit application (City of Chicago and Suburbs), Permit fees are now due upfront before the Plans are reviewed for Permitting.
  •  State of Illinois has now adopted IECC 2012- New Energy code. All projects in Illinois must comply with this requirement.
  •  New 2010 ADA Standards are now adopted as New Standards for all projects. City of Chicago still applies some sections of the old law which when it is stringent than 2010 version.
