Slowest Dealfow Week in 6 Weeks - 105 Pvt Cos Raise $375.8M (Week of 6/5/10)

After a slew of strong weeks of private company financing activity, the week ending June 5th saw financiers take a break.  Cali and Mass held strong.  NY dipped on a dollars basis but held strong on deals indicating smaller deal sizes.  An unusual suspect, Minnesota, entered the top five during the week as well reaching a twelve week high.  Interactive charts to dissect the dealfow by week and by geography are available in the post.

Medical Device Investment Very Surgical.

The healthcare sector has been the big dollar winner amongst venture capital investments for the last many quarters.  We'd previously highlighted that this uptick has been driven by medical device investment.  We dove a bit deeper into the medical device industry to look at it by CB Insights sub-industries and noticed that surgical devices are the primary driver of the increase in medical device venture investment over the last 6 years.  To see how the data for various medical device sub-industries stack up against one another, click the link below.

Payday.  Venture Capitalists Increasingly Investing in Payments.

Payments companies as tracked by CB Insights are seeing increased investment activity by venture investors.  A variety of virtual goods payment enablers, mobile payment companies and payment platforms for social networks have been the beneficiaries in the new payments uptrend.  Is the payments industry investment uptick one that will strengthen and what does it mean for the incumbents in the payments space.
