Hey hey,
I’m celebrating the 30th anniversary of Guelph’s Hillside Festival this week with two special guests.
First up, Lee Ranaldo of NYC’s Sonic Youth (another of my most favourite bands ever) and I spoke via Skype from Brazil where he was on tour with his band, Lee Ranaldo and the Dust. We talked about his upcoming solo album that no one but you and me and a small group of his associates knows about, the Occupy movement, the drama between Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, as it pertains to SY, his Canadian connections, and how he feels about the Hillside workshop he’s in that I just notified him about. You can listen to this now.

Later this week, the superhuman that is saxophonist Colin Stetson and I have a chat about his being shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize (again), his amazing new record, New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light, how things are going on the new Arcade Fire LP, which he’s on, and how he feels about his Hillside workshop with Lee Ranaldo, which I just notified him about. I’m like the town crier, if a town needed a crier specifically about music festival workshops…
