Hello <<First Name>>,

Please join us for the next Historical Presentation: Trails to Interstate: Transportation Systems Across the Palmer Divide
Lee Whiteley will present on August 8 at 7:00 pm "Trails to Interstate: Transportation Systems Across the Palmer Divide". The Palmer Divide, also known as the Arkansas-Platte Divide, has a history of producing challenges and opportunities for moving people and goods. This transportation corridor, hemmed in by the Rocky Mountains to the west and the high plains to the east, has facilitated and encouraged commerce, communication, and tourism to the region.

The program will cover the following transportation systems: The Trappers Trail, The Cherokee Trail, The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, Auto Trails, Numbered Highways: Colorado Highway 83, the original planned route of Interstate 25, and U.S. Highway 85, the notorious “Ribbon of Death.” and Interstate 25: The heavily used and often hazardous road across Monument Hill. See more information about the presentation on the website.

Lee is a 4th generation Coloradan and now lives in Centennial. He graduated from Englewood High School and the University of Denver. He spent two years in the U.S. Army, including a year in Vietnam.  Lee and wife Jane have authored five books on transportation history in the West, including The Cherokee Trail, The Yellowstone Highway, and The Lincoln Highway in Colorado. They are associate producers of the PBS documentary “Paving the Way: The National Park-to-Park Highway.”

Join us at 7:00-8:00 pm at P.S. Miller Library. Refreshments at 6:30 by The Cakery.

A big Thank You to Todd Folkenberg of Castle Rock Adventist Hospital for inviting the Historical Society to name the MOB after an early Castle Rock doctor. Museum staff researched and decided upon Dr. Alexander, who practiced in Castle Rock for over 60 years. CRHS is curating a permanent exhibit for the building. Dr. Alexander lived in the historic Hammer House and the current owner, CRHS Co-Founder, Lionel Oberlin, owns many original artifacts. Among them is a beautiful portrait, which he allowed CRHS to reproduce for the exhibit.
