Application Deadline: Boot Camps 

The application deadline for both the CNC and Welding/Fabrication Boot Camps starting on September 3rd is FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 2013 AT 5:00 PM.

Biz Squad Students Gain Global Perspective

Gateway’s Biz Squad is a multi-disciplinary course where members work collectively on problem-centric learning with local businesses. Staff from the Workforce and Economic Development Division collaborated with Gateway's Biz Squad to offer a program in Morocco through a HED grant, funded by USAID.

A Biz Squad student who was involved in the international project with Ecole Superieure de Technologie  (EST) during the fall of 2012 semester at Gateway shares her perspective and experience with the project.

Microsoft Workshops

Have you been thinking of getting trained in Quick Books, Word or Excel...look no further! During the month of August we are offering training in beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of the Microsoft Workshops. A few classes are listed below,  visit our site or download a flier to read the complete list of workshops.

Excel 2  
Learn to manage workbooks and prepare them for the Web, automate worksheet tasks, manipulate data using lists, analyze lists and enhance charts and worksheets.
Thursdays, August 15 & 22 (8:00 am – Noon)
               
Quick Books 2  
Learn how to customize forms, use other QuickBooks accounts, create reports, create graphs, track and pay sales tax, do payroll with QuickBooks, prepare estimates, time tracking, and job costing.
Thursdays, August 15 & 22 (1:00 - 5:00 pm)         
 
Word 2  
Students will learn intermediate-level features and functions of Word. That includes working with sections and columns, format tables, import Excel data, create and modify styles, work with headers and footers, print labels and envelopes, work with graphics and objects, apply and create templates, and manage document versions.

Fast Pitch

Date: Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Time: Initial presentations 2:30 pm / Open to public 5:45 pm

Location: UW-Parkside, Student Center Ballroom / 900 Wood Road, Kenosha


The 2013 Racine/Kenosha FastPitch Competition is your chance to prove the potential of your business idea, meet people who can help you succeed, maybe even win a cash prize! Competitors will have three minutes max to hit it out of the park before a panel of judges from the business and investment community. Passionate entrepreneurs in all phases of business, including start-up or pre-start-up; idea stage. High school seniors and college-age students welcome.

This is no field of dreams: Top prize of 
$5,000 will be awarded  and prizes will be given to 2nd and 3rd place with a separate student category/prize. All competitors will receive invaluable feedback, a fun experience and valuable exposure to investors, business leaders, potential mentors and media.

Delta Hawk

Beginning in Fall 2013, Gateway, in partnership with DeltaHawk Engines Inc., will offer the two-semester Diesel Aviation Manufacturing certificate program. DeltaHawk, specifically, anticipates needing workers trained in this field to fill projected open positions within their company.

An information session will be held at Gateway’s Horizon Center for Transportation Technology, 4940 88th Ave., Kenosha from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on July 24th.

Gateway instructors will discuss the details of the program and representatives from DeltaHawk will be on hand to talk about the industry need for trained technicians. These sessions are open to the public and reservations are not required.

Gateway will prepare workers with transitional skills for DeltaHawk in order to meet their growth projections. 



Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

Six Sigma is the standard of measure for world-class quality. Public and private companies use Six Sigma to achieve bottom-line results. The certification program provides 100 hours of training through 48 hours of classroom, 40 hours of on-line instructions, and 12 hours of individual coaching/consulting.

Content includes: overview of organizational structure, using the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control elements in the DMAIC process, value stream mapping, and completion of individual workplace improvement projects.
