News from the S+T Studio

Two Stiff +Trevillion projects have won their categories at the 2013 NLAwards.

1 Valentine Place won the Office Building category and the Queens Cinema won the Conservation & Retrofit group.  Both projects beat nine other shortlisted projects to win. 

10 - 4 Pentonville Road was also shortlisted in the Conservation & Retrofit category and has just been shortlisted for the AJ Retrofit Awards, announced in September 2013.

Queens Cinema

Due for completion in September 2014, this residential scheme for Derwent London is a sensitive re-working of a beautiful art deco building.  On the site of the disused Queens Cinema, Bayswater, this project will create 16 high-quality residential apartments, retail space at ground floor level, and provide improvements to the public realm.  The five-storey building retains the existing façade of the cinema and is designed to comply with Code for Sustainable Homes level 4, and to meet the Lifetime Homes standard.

1 Valentine Place

This new seven-story office building occupies a small site that was a former petrol station   The building is constructed from an insitu reinforced-concrete frame structure, and is clad with a grey-blue anodised-aluminum unitized façade system including decorative vertical fin sunshading. The building is fitted out to the category A standard.  The project has achieved BREEAM excellent, incorporating renewable and low-carbon technologies reducing energy use by around 40% and was completed in March 2013.

Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2013 (RBDA)

The Corner Restaurant and Champagne Bar, designed by Stiff + Trevillion, has been shortlisted for the 2013 RBDA.  The restaurant, on the second floor of Selfridges, sits within the Women's Designer Rooms.  S+T have opened up the space and created a light, bright restaurant that celebrates this building's magnificent art deco heritage.

Sydney Contemporary 13, 20 - 22 September
 

Stiff + Trevillion are show architects for this September's Sydney Contemporary Art Fair.  Following a successful collaboration on Art13 in London, S+T was asked work on this prestigious southern hemisphere event. Sydney Contemporary is Sydney’s new international art fair showcasing work by emerging and established artists from leading Australian and international galleries. The inaugural edition takes place throughout Eveleigh’s striking arts precinct, Carriageworks, from 20-22 September 2013.
