During the encounter on 13th June the Grand Master presented the activities of the Order of Malta, stressing the ancient tradition of caring for the weak and suffering that has always distinguished its work. The Pontiff urged those present to continue the Hospital’s work with courage and hope. More
The Grand Master receives the President of Togo Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe

"I would like to stress how happy Togo is to count the Sovereign Order of Malta, the oldest humanitarian order in the world, as its friend,” said President Gnassingbe of Togo, accompanied on this occasion, 18th June, by the Foreign Minister Elliott Ohin. “The Order of Malta is developing concrete projects in Togo for the disadvantaged." Aid for Mali refugees

One of the Ordre de Malte France’s missions is to bring support and assistance to the victims of disasters or humanitarian emergencies. Within the framework of this mission, it has been working directly in Burkina Faso to assist Malian refugees who have been forced from their country by the political crisis. We are talking about some 475,000 persons who have had to leave their homes since 2012. More
Myanmar: Emergency relief for displaced stepped up in Rakhine state

Almost a year after a violent ethnic conflict forced thousands to leave their homes, nearly 140,000 people are still displaced in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. The situation continues to be critical: with the current monsoon season, the displaced are constantly threatened by flooding in the camps. The Order of Malta’s worldwide relief agency, Malteser International, is intensifying its relief efforts in the region. More
Hungary: New Hope for a Marginalised Community

Home visits for 400 Syrian refugee families in Lebanon

With Malteser Interanational's support, the Lebanese Association of the Order of Malta's social-medical centre in Khaldieh is sending out health professionals to visit Syrian refugees living in precarious improvised shelters in Zgharta and Kfarzayna villages. More

Malteser International is also calling attention to the daily struggle for survival of displaced Syrian mothers and children. More

Prevention and treatment of diabetes in El Salvador

The Order of Malta’s National Association in El Salvador has set up a healthcare campaign for the prevention and treatment of diabetes in El Salvador, a widespread disease in this Central American country. Five hundred people have taken advantage of the initiative thus far. The new clinics opened their doors offering everyone a free glycemic test. More
The Order's commitment worldwide in 100 photos

A photographic exhibition on the Sovereign Order of Malta was inaugurated on 19th June at the Instituto Cervantes in Rome. The exhibition, organised in cooperation with the Spanish Embassy, represents a journey through the centuries to illustrate the health and humanitarian mission carried out by the Order of Malta around the world. It starts with the Pie Postulatio Voluntatis, the document of which the Order of Malta is celebrating the 900th anniversary. More
International Association of Catholic Bioethicists: supporting and caring for the disabled

Seventy international bioethical experts met in Rome from 9-14 June to participate in the 6th Colloquium of the International Association of Catholic Bioethicists, promoted by the Sovereign Order of Malta.  The theme of this conference was “Supporting and Caring for Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: Ethical Reflections and Practical Considerations." More
The National Library of Malta celebrates the Order’s past and present

It holds pride of place, despite its 900 years, under a glass case protecting it from the fragility of centuries.  We’re talking about the Pie Postulatio Voluntatis,the most important – and most admired – document in the exhibition inaugurated on 7 June last at the National Library of Malta in Valletta. The Order of Malta honours Bomporto one year after the earthquake, in the presence of the Italian Minister for Integration Cécile Kyenge

The Silver Medal pro Merito Melitensi was conferred, the 25th May last, on the Civic Standard of the Municipality of Bomporto in the province of Modena by Mauro Casinghini, National Director of the Order of Malta’s Italian Rescue Corps (CISOM), responsible for the multiethnic camp set up immediately after last year’s earthquake. The extraordinary session of the Municipal Council was held in the presence of the Minister for Integration, Cécile Kyenge, who recalled those tragic moments. More
