Enjoying a Hot Summer!
Thanks to all of you -- and other fans around the world -- the first half of 2013 has been “hot” indeed. I have been honored to have both B&W and color work recognized by several of the most prestigious photography competitions in the world – including ones in the U.S., England, France and Australia!
International Photographer of the Year! I was truly honored to be named the Landscape and Seascape Photographer of the Year in the 4th Annual Pollux Awards, a major international photographer competition based in England. My work was selected from among more than 2,900 images from 42 countries. I have received quite a few international awards in recent years, but this is the first time that any worldwide organization has named me their Photographer of the Year!
Knapstein Image of Gibraltar Rock First Place Romantic Landscape! My image “Golden Hour at Gibraltar Rock” won First Place in the international Romantic Landscape juried competition sponsored by the FIER Institute in Australia. In addition to the honor of winning first place, I also received a generous $1,000 cash prize. My work will be included in an exhibit in Sydney later this year that will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and other advocates of fine art and social documentary photography. My photo will also be published in the Picturing the World Family portfolio book series.
Parfrey's Glen by Michael Knapstein First Place Rural Landscape! One of my "greatest hits" images, “Parfrey’s Glen” recently added another international accolade when it received First Place in the Rural Landscape Category of the 3rd Annual Black and White Photographer of the Year competition sponsored by the Worldwide Photography Gala Awards. Based in England, the WPGA received entries from 47 countries.

As part of the prize, it was also published in the July issue of Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine. This photograph was taken at Tiedeman Pond in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Moonrise by Michael Knapstein Honorable Mention in Australia! In addition to winning First Place, another one of my images also received an Honorable Mention Award in the international Romantic Landscape juried competition sponsored by the FIER Institute in Australia.
