Performances & Workshops at AFAC

September 2013

Dance Artist Ben Munisteri (with guest choreographer Rebecca Stenn)
Thursday and Friday Evenings, Sept 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27 at 7:00pm

Born and raised in Brooklyn, inveterate choreographer Ben Munisteri presents new work for the first time in two years. Performed by an eight-dancer ensemble, his Time Remaining: Less Than a Minute will feature choreographic microstructures re-sequenced and re-cast in brief permutations, each lasting less than 60 seconds. A study in fleeting iterations, the dance refers obliquely to the way we experience the passage of time, the recall of memory, and the constancy of our mortality. Also, the title is the same as the message Ben gets on his Macbook each time he downloads something. The program will also include excerpts from a new solo by choreographer/dancer Rebecca Stenn. Ben's cast is Shane Rutkowski, Angela Maffia, Patra Jongjitirat, Blaine Horton, Martha Dobbs, Shomeiko Ingham, Robert Maynard, and Ben Follensbee. Family night is Friday, September 20: Bring your kids!
"complex, arresting...remarkable."--Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times

Tickets are $18.00.

Health Care Reform for Small Businesses and Sole Proprietors
Tuesday, September 24 at 6:30pm

Everyone's talking about The Affordable Care Act, but how will "Obamacare" affect sole proprietors and small businesses in the arts? With the implementation of Exchanges, premium subsidies for the low to middle income, and the availability of small business tax credits, the health insurance options for people working in the performing arts should increase immensely over the next year. Renata Marinaro, the Eastern Region Director of Health Services for The Actors Fund, will provide individuals with clear guidance on steps to take, and small businesses an understanding of how to navigate the new landscape at this free workshop.
Questions answered include:
  • What will the options be in 2014? What is the new SHOP Exchange for small businesses?
  • I’m a freelancer  – what are my options?
  • What are the penalties if you don’t have insurance?
  • What is the small business tax credit?
  • What if I can’t afford to insure my employees –what are their options?
  • How will people afford insurance in the new system?
  • Who is eligible for Medicaid?

To register for this free workshop, please email rmarinaro@actorsfund.org.
