"Aspen Trees in Black and White"
Each year I try and make the trip to Crested Butte, Colorado to spend time
in the mountains and amongst the beautiful large groves of Aspen Trees.
When I found this set of trees, I loved how wonderfully the trees lined
up, making a strong composition with the main focus being on the
center tree. I decided on creating a black and white image because
of the deep depth of tones that really makes it strong and dramatic.

Photo Tip of the Month
If you are interested in taking better landscape photographs, photograph during the magic hour of sunrise and sunset. Photos shot during this time are less contrasty and the light is not only warmer but softer. The longer shadows create depth and dimension that leads to interesting patterns that can be used in your compositions.
Mid-day shots on the other hand result in images that look flat with harsh lighting. If you are in the perfect place at this "wrong" time, work with the clouds and the sky. The sun being hidden behind a cloud will cause a soft box affect that will decrease the harsh light and add a bit of softness to the scene. Finally, there is some great software on the market that will allow for easy enhancement of your skies.
