Norm and Debbie's Prayer Partner's Update

August/September, 2013

Intercessors Arise
“God’s first requirement in ministry is barrenness. God looks for people who are incapable of producing life on their own, those who have come to the end of their own striving and honestly admit their true condition. Most of us, not wanting to bear this reproach, go around feigning 'life.' Our activities become the substitute for the anointing. Programs replace productivity and prayer. Life seems to abound everywhere, until one looks below the surface and realizes it’s only a veneer—a form of godliness that lacks power. Why does God insist on barrenness as a prerequisite for blessing? Simply because no flesh can glory in it… God has to strip us first so that He alone is glorified.”  David Ravenhill

Dear praying friends,

Greetings from IHOP-KC (International House of Prayer in Kansas City). I used the above quote in a ministry prayer time with the Immerse training this week and got a good response.

Thank you for praying for our 40 day journey to the east coast several weeks ago. The time visiting prayer and financial partners, friends, and family was tremendous. We went from Virginia Beach all the way up to Buffalo, New York. We had some very good meetings as well. Your prayers meant so much to us.

Now we are back in Kansas City, and most of the IHOP mission's base is on a 21-day Daniel fast. Mike Bickle encouraged everyone to add two hours a day in prayer. We all need grace to pray. We are in such a desperate time in our nation and in the nations of the world. Just today I heard that many Christians have been killed in Egypt and 50 churches have been burnt down.

Prayer Requests for August/September:
  1. Pray for the Immerse training - We are near the end of our 8-day August Immerse training. It's been an excellent time of spiritual growth for those in this monthly IHOP program. Everyone is challenged in intimacy with God, radical prayer, and so many key areas for the end times. This Immerse focus is on Israel. In my group are a couple from Singapore, a couple from Australia, a Canadian, and 3 Americans. We had them over for dinner on Wednesday evening and had a great time. Our next Immerse is called "Intercession that Changes the World". Please pray for my part in this training. I would like to do more teaching in the future.

  2. Pray for our involvement with the mission's students here at IHOP - This Sunday 10 ACTS students who are going to Spain and Morocco are coming over for dinner to discuss with us their involvement in these two nations. Pray for increased involvement and anointing to help direct them to the nations.

  3. We just started a mission's Monday morning fellowship in our home - We are starting small but it will grow quickly. There are so many mission's people that visit IHOP or are on staff or in training. We are keeping our eyes open for a bigger location in the near future. Each week we will focus on a different missionary and part of the world. We just visited a couple, Frank and Marie Drown, who rescued the bodies of Jim Elliot and 5 others who were killed by the Auca Indians in Equador many years ago. Many of you know of Elizabeth Elliot. Frank will be our main speaker at one of these meetings.

  4. Please continue to pray for the translation and selling of my 4 new books on prayer - I am on a new journey of discovering how to market them. Please pray that God will show me how to do this. This is hard for me because I never did it before and I've worked hard on each book - Breakthrough Prayer, Ascending the Heights in prayer, Deeper Still, and 24/7 Prayer Arise. I would like to see them translated into many languages - Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, and Russian initially. I am working with some here regarding this but it is a slow process. Pray for a breakthrough!

  5. Pray for an anointing in writing and the distribution of my bi-monthly prayer articles on many websites - Crosswalk.com publishes several of them but I am looking for more. Pray for God's people to grow tremendously in prayer!

  6. Pray for a new book that I will publish in January, 2014 - I just got the rough draft of another book I just finished writing called The Invitation: Entering God's Heart Through Prayer.

  7. Pray for the future development of Intercessors Arise International - I believe the Lord wants to develop this ministry further with conferences for intercessors, trainings, a new website and more, but I need His wisdom and resources for this. Pray for intercessors to arise!

  8. Pray for our overseas ministry - We are helping with the building of the House of Prayer in Spain and beyond and need great wisdom and timing in our future trips. We may spend a few months in Spain next winter but need God's guidance. A group of Spanish leaders are coming to our October IMMERSE called "Building the House of Prayer". We are so excited. They will be staying in our basement!

  9. Pray for the development of Houses of Prayer worldwide in every country and every unreached people group - We are working towards seeing a House of Prayer developed in a North African unreached people group, but there are so many more that are needed in others.

  10. Pray for close friends and a team where we live - People change here continuously and we would love a solid team of mission's people we could work with. Norm is a zone pastor here at IHOP, and we want to start a small friendship group once our health improves. Pray that we would be good mothers and fathers to this large IHOP community made up of mainly young people.

  11. Pray for our week visiting my family in Minnesota - Next week we will be in Minnesota on our yearly visit to see my family.

  12. Pray for our Sabbath rest - Norm and I are trying to rest more in order to gain more strength before the coming winter. We both have been very tired and appreciate continued prayer for rest, recuperation, and fun. We are living in an intense environment. We plan to get away for 2 nights to celebrate our 30th anniversary on August 27th.

  13. Pray for our health and total healing - Norm still has a severe sleep problem, and I still have to see a cardiologist to check up on a heart issue as well as a urologist. This is the time to take care of these issues.
May the Lord bless each one of you as you labor with us in prayer. Thank you so much for being on our team.

"We are a generation that avoids pain at all costs. This is why there are so few intercessors. Most Christians operate on the shallowest levels of prayer, but God wants to take us into the deep levels of intercessory prayer that only a few ever experience. Deep, prolonged intercession is painful. It involves staying before God when everyone else has gone away or sleeps (Luke 22:45). It involves experiencing brokenness with the Father over those who continually rebel against Him. How many of us will experience this kind of fervent intercession?" Henry and Richard Blackaby
