Enjoy the Long Weekend on a Trail in a Park
August 2, 2013
Ontario’s Provincial Parks Offering Fun-Filled Day TripsWith shady trails, sandy beaches and perfect picnic spots, Ontario Parks provide the ideal one-day getaway for families and outdoor enthusiasts over summer long weekends.
This weekend, take in the province’s natural beauty and enjoy a wide array of recreation activities at provincial parks across Ontario. You can:
-
Take a dip at Bronte Creek, home to one of North America’s largest man-made pools.
-
Swim, sun and build sand castles at Inverhuron’s sandy Lake Huron beach.
-
At John E. Pearce, hike to a lookout atop 30-metre bluffs for a gorgeous view of Lake Erie.
-
Stop by Port Bruce for a day at the beach and a round of Frisbee golf.
-
Take a nature walk over Sandbanks’ rolling dunes, bask on golden beaches, or enjoy a play at Theatre in the Park.
-
Savour Silent Lake’s “no motor boats allowed” rule – quiet paddles and undisturbed fishing.
-
Wade in the waves at The Pinery, near Grand Bend. Its 10-kilometre beach gives swimmers a shallow, sheltered area to play in the surf.
-
Sail, swim or fish for perch in Lake Erie at Turkey Point.
-
Watch a War of 1812 naval re-enactment at Wasaga Beach or spend a day relaxing on the world’s longest freshwater beach.
-
Bring the family to Ivanhoe Lake for a lazy day on its long, curving sandy beach with warm, shallow water and a playground for the kids.
Day-trippers get a summer’s worth of fun with an Ontario Parks seasonal day-use pass. Book roofed accommodations by calling the park reservation line at 1-888-ONT-PARK between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily.
Watch out for noxious plants!

Selwyn Township
Trails Master Plan
The Township of Selwyn is committed to fostering a healthy, engaged and connected community. Trail development is one way to promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle and to connect community members to the natural beauty in our Township. Physical activity helps to prevent heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, cancer and depression. An increase in physical activity can save millions in health care spending and helps to reduce stress and improves mental health.
Trails are designed for recreation activities such as walking, cycling and jogging. They are an inexpensive form of recreation and can provide moderate activity to challenging outdoor adventures. They can provide physical activity for a widest range of people including those with disabilities, children, youth, seniors and others known to be less active.
Communities that have attractive trails have the ability to attract tourists from far and wide. Tourism creates jobs and puts money into the local economies. Trails are a great economic driver as many users will purchase goods and use services in the communities they are located. This means money is being spent in local restaurants, accommodations, retail purchases and day trips. They can also increase home values and offer pleasant viewing, quieter streets, a touch of nature in a community and a variety of recreational opportunities just steps away.
Trails have the ability to strengthen the local social fabric of the community. They tend to create a continuity of volunteers and opportunities for friendships, networking and exploration. Trails bring people together to share social values while participating in meaningful activities.
The goal of the Trails Master Plan is to provide the Township with a long-range strategy for trails and trail facilities. The Plan will explore existing and future trails as well as identifying linkages with other trail systems.
The Township is Hosting an Open House in order to better understand the needs and desires of the community. The Open House will be held onThursday July 18, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Municipal Office (1310 Centre Line, Smith Ward).
For Further Information
Community members are encouraged to attend and provide feedback on their vision for the Township’s trail system. Community members can also provide input by emailing John Sellars, Manager of Parks and Recreation Services at 705-292-9507 ext. 241.
Township of Selwyn Trails Master Plan Survey

Amazing!
by klc0718
What a fantastic app! I am always looking for new trails near home and while camping and this will make it so much easier! I love the level of detail... length, difficulty, terrain, photos etc. I've read some negative reviews complaining about the map coverage and the omission of some trails...But I find it quite fine for my needs and there are usually links to the appropriate trail association's website for those requiring a higher level of detail. I think it's a great starting point for when you want to get an idea of what's around you but you don't want to waste several hours doing internet research. And there are many, many trails in Ontario; I'm not surprised if they aren't all included in the very first edition of this app. I'm sure Ontario Trails will be more than happy to include any missed trails that people bring to their attention. Personally, though, I find the current listings to be quite comprehensive. Great work Ontario Trails!
Super app
