Happy August!

Ah, as much as I love school supplies-and I do- it's a little disheartening to see them in the store the day after the 4th of July, when there are still 6 or 8 more weeks of summer left. These days, with football underway and the start of college classes looming, we are trying to eke out the last little bit of relaxation before the grind begins again. I'm savoring lunches with my kids, pool days, and pajama days before they fade away. I hope you're enjoying your summer, too. Never fear, wonderful readers. I haven't taken the summer off by any means. Let me fill you in.

Sanction Update

Getting Sanction edited has been my top priority. I know you're anxious for it, and I appreciate your patience. I really think it will be worth the wait. My early readers are saying it's definitely the best of the series, and maybe the best one of all. (No pressure.)  I hope to be done with it by the end of August. But to thank you for waiting, I uploaded Chapter 2. There are so many things I like about Sanction. I'll be anxious to hear what you think.

Radio Update

I think we're going to do this radio thing. I've been reading, learning, and absorbing the ins and outs of internet radio, and I think we'll be ready for a test broadcast soon. If that's not an unmitigated disaster, we'll look at setting up a regular show time. I'm excited and crazy nervous all at the same time.

Some quick notes
  • The Precedent Discussion guide is ready.
  • I collected the Bible Study Tips blog posts for each book of the Bible, and I'm working on compiling them in an e-book. Lauren did most of the formatting for me. I just have to clean it up. (But I've been working on Sanction.)
  • I had a couple of long car trips recently, and that always gives me time to plot and plan. Two new stories are beginning to gel so if you're game to keep reading, I promise to keep writing. (For the record, in my writing folder I have 2 contracted books, 4 drafts and 9 other concepts or outlines. We're in this for a while.)

On my bookshelf

During the summer, I get a few brief weeks to read what I want to, not what I have to for school or research purposes. Let me recommend No Other gods: Confronting Our Modern Day Idols by Kelly Minter. It's worth it for the chapter on laying down our Ishmaels. (Yes, Ishmaels and not Isaacs. Very unique and thought-provoking.) Also, Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus by Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg. It's a look at the things Jesus' Jewish listeners would have known and understood, but we 21st century Americans are clueless about. Good stuff!  (I don't know these people. I'm not getting any swag for mentioning their books.)

In July, I got my latest royalties statement, and I am humbled by the support you folks have shown. Writing is often a lonely business with lots of hours at a computer, muttering to oneself. However, God has blessed me, connecting me some amazing wonderful friends in the process. May He return your blessings to you a hundredfold.
