Scotland's Adaptation Conference 2013
Successful adaptation pilots give way to community resilience funding

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Paul Wheelhouse MSP used Scotland's Adaptation Conference to announce big changes to the Climate Challenge Fund. The Fund will now also be available for projects that contribute to climate resilience. The conference was a sell-out success with 200 delegates discussing projects and approaches from community to EU level.

Win, win win - realising the value of a sustainable Scotland
The annual SSN conference will address the question "How can the public sector help realise the value of a sustainable Scotland?" It will showcase examples of public sector leadership and action that deliver a win-win-win for the economy, society and the environment. The conference will be held in Edinburgh on 7 November.

Adaptation in the forestry sector films
The Forest Reasearch website has 5 new films about adaptation in the forestry sector and how to increase resilience to climate change threats. The films cover forestry and climate change, extreme weather, biodiversity, pests and diseases, and forestry in an uncertain climate.

The consultation on the Scottish Climate Change Adaptation Programme closes on 27 September.

Managing the land in a changing climate
A new report from the The Adaptation Sub-Committee (ASC) of the Committee on Climate Change on land management concludes that little progress has been made to address climate risks. ‘Managing the land in a changing climate’ proposes priority actions, including: reform of water abstraction, speedier progress on coastal realignment, increased peatland restoration and better enforced protection for wildlife habitats.

Warnings climate change will disrupt US energy supply
The US Department of Energy has published a report that suggests that severe weather events associated with climate change, such as heat waves, sea level rise and droughts, are putting the country’s energy infrastructure at risk.
