Planting for the Vision
by Nelson Roth
What an exciting time for Relevant Ministry and for those that have joined us through faithful prayer and financial support.  During March and April, 2012, $67,335 was raised to purchase property!  On June 5, 2013, Jay Burns and I represented the Relevant Ministry Board of Directors as we signed papers and made the first payment on the property for the new RM Center at 503 Church Avenue in Pass Christian, Mississippi.

This year during the months of September and October
, we will be initiating a Capital Campaign called "Planting for the Vision."  The goal of the campaign is to raise $94,000.  $45,000 will be dedicated to the final mortgage payment for the RM Center and the remaining $49,000 will go toward important and much needed property improvements. Relevant Ministry Center
The RM team is passionate about serving the Lord on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the Relevant Ministry Center is a vital ministry tool that we use for training, serving and hosting groups.  So far in 2013, we have hosted more than 15 groups of people through mission teams, leadership retreats, leadership training, serving retreats, servacations, and RM volunteer gatherings totaling over 400 people at the Relevant Ministry Center.  Will you begin to pray now about what your part will be in this important campaign for Relevant Ministry?

Join us by saying "YES" to partnering in "Planting for the Vision."

I Corinthians 3:6, “I planted the seed,
Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.”

Watch for your response card in the mail the end of August.  During September and October, you can give your gift or make your pledge to be given by the end of the year.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and consideration of your part in "Planting for the Vision" of Relevant Ministry.

for if we don’t give up, we will in due time reap the harvest."

Life Transforming Lessons of RM's 2013 Summer Interns
by Jeff Hegstrom
It was an honor to have Jordan and Emilee come to the Gulf Coast to serve as interns with RM this summer.  God used both of these interns in incredible ways to do ministry that was powerful and effective and lives were transformed for Jesus Christ.  We hope you are blessed and encouraged by their personal stories!

Relevant Ministry Interns
Being an intern at Relevant Ministry has given me the opportunity to really relinquish the gifts God has given me and to not be afraid to show my true self to others.   After going through summer internship training, I know I have a true heart of a servant.  I love just being behind the scenes working and not being recognized for it. It felt great to know that the staff at RM had enough faith in me to know that a task would get done because they knew I was on top of it.
Staying with the Hegstroms made it feel like I was a part of a family because they welcomed me into their home with open arms.  I loved getting to experience what it really means to live life on mission.  Even after being gone for just a day, I am already coming up with ways to be more relational with people who I am going to be living with, working with, and having class with.  Being relational with people helps build a foundation in the relationship you have with that person.

Relevant Ministry Interns

During my stay in Mississippi, I truly learned a lot about myself.  I learned that I really do love being with young kids and have a tenderness in my heart to serve them.   Because I am closer to their age, I also feel like I can relate more with students that are in high school.   I always thought I would love the junior high kids more; but God really showed me this is not my strong point, and I am at peace with that because I can’t be great at everything, even though I try to be.
I have also learned that I need to be at peace and humble about what God has planned for my life; even though, I may still be trying to figure that out.  However, some things are consistently not going in my favor; but God knows. I am excited to start another year of school and just want to do a better job of displaying my love for Jesus to the people around me.

My month as an intern in Mississippi was one of the most freeing times in my life. I have always had a heart to serve and care for others.   The day we rearranged our schedule to go and help Mr. Wayne and Miss Tammy move reminded me that we are not on our own schedule; but we are on the Lord’s.  When there are opportunities to serve throughout the day, I need to remember to stop and help.  I am a missionary no matter where I live or what I’m doing.  I need to always be on the lookout for ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus wherever I am.
Relevant Ministry Interns
I know that I have a future in Mississippi with Relevant Ministry, I just don’t know when.  I am continuing to follow God’s will for my life as I wait for Him to lead me.  I am learning patience, trust, and flexibility through the process.  Even though this may be a “waiting period” for me, I am going to choose not to view it that way.  I will continue to live, grow, and serve while I listen to what God has to say.  Trust was a big part of me coming down to serve, and now it’s a bigger part as I find out where I will end up.  I am continually reminded that my plans don’t matter because in the end, God will be the one making the final decision.  I am so thankful that He is guiding me.  It is so reassuring knowing that someone knows what is going to happen.
I am so incredibly grateful that I was able to spend so much time in Mississippi this summer.  I miss it already.  Thank you so much for everything Relevant Ministry does daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly on the Coast.  I could already tell that from the last time I was down to this time, RM is better known on the Coast.  It is so exciting to watch this ministry grow.

The Power of ONE
by Brad Houchin
After months of praying and planning, ONE happened this summer. Over 100 attendees and volunteers joined together for a weeklong mission experience reaching out to serve many needs of the Gulf Coast.
The heart of ONE is to connect local churches to each other and for sustainable ministry opportunities they can continue to reach out to beyond the week of ONE. Each day brought about new experiences such as – leading a neighborhood VBS, construction opportunities, serving homeless families, taking a stand against human-trafficking, collecting donations, team building activities, face-painting, bounce houses, morning devotions, small groups, incredible worship gatherings, breakout and teaching sessions. It was truly a life transforming experience. The week was a huge success and we cannot wait until ONE 2014!
Here is a testimony from Whitney (one of the many volunteers who served at ONE).
“I was blessed to spend a week helping out the Relevant team with ONE. And what a great opportunity it was. It really helped open my eyes to all the great opportunities there are in my community to share the love of Christ and to serve. I had no idea there were so many organizations to get involved with. Human-trafficking, foster care, and the homeless are just some of the ones I was able to witness the youth getting involved with. There was one night, we had a prayer walk down to the beach, and when we got there and got all set up, we shared some experiences of our week. I can still remember the compassion and the camaraderie among the youth as they shared their life changing experiences of the week. To have a ministry reach out to the youth, and show them the heart of Christ leaves such a lasting impact, and I'm so glad I was able to be apart of that.”
ONE 2014 will be June 8 – 14

IL Golf Outing
by Angie Hegstrom
July 18, marked the day for the Second Annual RM Golf Outing.  It was a beautiful, hot, Illinois day for our 1:00 gun shot start.  We were so blessed to have eight additional teams register making our numbers go up from 12 teams last year to 20 teams this year.  It was such an awesome feeling when we stopped in to the course earlier in the week to drop off hole sponsor signs and we were told that our outing was the only outing this summer that had increased in size.  Thank you Lord for your provision!
We could not have pulled this off without the help of our Illinois volunteer team: Mike Boles, Krista Swanson and Steph Kool.  We are so grateful for all their help from organization of the event, to fundraising and gathering raffle prizes.
The Golf Outing netted $7,396.19, prior to some additional expenses from our end - primarily gasoline ($1,188.33) for the three staff families to travel from Mississippi, some promotional expenses and thank you gifts.  The total fundraiser profit was $5,624.42.  A big thank you again to all of our golfers who played that day and made it such a successful event.
We are excited to announce next year's date for your calendars - Thursday, July 17, 2014!
