In May, 11 students and two faculty members from the Bemidji School of Nursing, which includes the nursing programs at both Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College, spent two weeks delivering health care and health care education in Belize.

Shortly after Commencement in May, Dr. Del Lyren, professor of music at Bemidji State University, set out on a four-week tour with “Voltage,” the university’s five-person student electronic music ensemble. The tour was unlike any other experienced by the musicians, however, as it involved a trans-Pacific journey to China.

The American Indian Resource Center is hosting “Why Treaties Matter: Self-Government in the Dakota and Ojibwe Nations,” a traveling exhibition exploring relationships between the Dakota and Ojibwe Indian nations and the United States government in Minnesota.

The exhibit, open through Aug. 22, illustrates how treaties have affected the lands and life ways of Minnesota’s indigenous people and why these binding agreements between sovereign nations still matter.

New turf for Chet Anderson Stadium
One of the most unique athletic venues in all of collegiate sport is getting a facelift. Beginning July 8, construction crews began work on a $1.3 million project to replace the playing surface at Chet Anderson Stadium. The project began with removal of the running track surrounding the field and the installation of a new entry plaza prior to the installation of a new drainage system and synthetic playing surface for football and soccer.
