In just under 2 months on September 12 Covidien will be holding its 2013 Investor Day at Cipriani (55 Wall St, New York).
We will be sending out registration information and more details in the next few weeks, but I wanted to make sure it was on your calendars for now. The event will take place the day after the Morgan Stanley Health Care conference ends, hopefully allowing some of you to combine the trip for both meetings.
We are expanding the scope of our investor day this year, and we expect to open the doors at 9:30 a.m. (subject to change).
Feedback from previous years has been consistent that attendees like the interactivity and informality of our morning session. Every year, however, we have some people showing up for the "webcast" portion of the event who then realize that they have missed a chance to spend significant time with our management team learning about our products. I encourage you to arrive early enough to take advantage of this part of the day.
From 9:30 until early afternoon, we will have semi-formal teach-in sessions on specific clinical and product areas in addition to our traditional product fair and management access. This format will be new this year. Some of these semi-formal sessions will be webcast for those who cannot attend in person but of course there is no way to capture the product fair in any webcast. Just as in years past, if you want to take advantage of this part of the meeting, you need to be there in person.
Lunch will be available, but you may need to eat quickly to keep from missing any of the concurrent events. This meeting is about education, not nutrition. :)
The formal presentation section will begin midafternoon followed by an extensive Q&A period.
We will continue our practice of not discussing any new formal guidance numbers until after the market closes--out of respect and fairness to those who cannot attend the meeting in person.
Shortly after 4:00 ET we will issue a press release with our 2014 formal guidance numbers and our CFO Chuck Dockendorff will present the numbers and give his additional commentary.
We will end the day with one final Q&A session followed by a cocktail reception at approximately 5:00.
We will be sending out a formal invitation with a more complete agenda and registration instructions in a few weeks.
