Colorado Proud School Meal Day
Is your school participating in this year's Colorado Proud School Meal Day on Wednesday, September 18, 2013? This annual event is a great opportunity for schools new to local food procurement to "try it out" and great for schools that already have farm to school programs underway. The Colorado Departments of Agriculture and Education have a wealth of resources to help make this a fun and educational event.
Meet Colorado FTS Champions!
August 2013 marked the launch of a new series - the Colorado Farm to School Champions! Each month, new champions will be highlighted on the Colorado Farm to School Blog and on the Colorado FTS website. Meet the first three:
-
Meg Caley, Sprout City Farms, an urban farmer who is growing food on Denver Public School land to be used in their school cafeterias.
-
Holly Conn, Mountain Roots Food Project, works through a local nonprofit organization to help school food service staff find and buy from local producers in the high mountain valley of Gunnison, Colorado.
-
Andrew Nowak, Slow Food Denver, is teaching kids through school gardens how to grow food and what to do with the food they grow.
