Summer Update 2013

Dear <<First Name>>,

Update on my injury
I’m recovering slow and steady. For those who do not know yet, I tipped over on my bicycle during my trip to Oregon, and broke my femoral neck (hip), all the way through, and ended up the recipient of three compression screws to keep me together. This type of surgery requires 6-8 wks of non-weight bearing (aka hobbling around on crutches), then I might start some weight bearing workouts or some pool rehabilitation for another 2 months. Sorry to say to you that I will be off work until November 2013.

Continuing Appointments in Osteopathy
In the mean time I’m happy to let you all know that Caroline Geofroy, an Athletic Therapist will be taking over any osteopathic treatment sessions at my home clinic. She has been working there for over a year now, and like me, has completed her Manual Osteopathic training and is now working on her thesis. For her thesis she is studying the “Effects of Global Osteopathic Treatment for Individuals with Rheumatoid Arthritis”. She is recruiting volunteers for her research.

Caroline will be in the clinic Tuesdays and Wednesdays and is welcoming new clients.
To find out more information about her and to book an appointment call or email:

Continuing Appointments in Massage Therapy
For those who need an appointment with a Registered Massage Therapist, book with any of the wonderful therapists at Vitality Treatment Centre. Relaxation, sports injuries, lymph drainage after injuries or surgeries, deep tissue, and scar work are on the menu, depending on the therapist. See the website and book online: Vitality Treatment Centre.

Research Continues....
I am in the writing phase and am determined to finish and present in Montreal June 2014. I'm crunching numbers and filling in data in excel spreadsheets! At least I can do this on my deck in the sunshine (when its out!).

Other Osteopathic Research, Volunteers needed
By David Laurin BSc, CAT(C)
I am currently completing a Diploma in Manual Osteopathic Practice. I need volunteers to receive a treatment while their brainwaves are being measured by a simple EEG machine. The machine consists mostly of a passive dry electrode on your forehead.
2 treatment sessions will be needed 1 week apart. Each treatment session will last approximately 1 hour and the treatments are free.
The research will take place at my clinic on Johnson Street in Victoria starting in July. I will need approximately 30 people to volunteer. Please contact me by email if you're interested.

PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH STUDY
On the Effect of Osteopathic Treatment on Individuals Living with ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome)
By Jenny Trost
Osteopathy is a gentle, hands-on therapy that treats the whole person. In this study, emphasis is placed on the role of the autonomic nervous system in health and disease.  All body systems are assessed and treated to restore normal mechanics and assist the body’s return to optimal function.
The researcher, Jenny Trost, trained originally as an acupuncturist.  Years later, she became fascinated with the autonomic nervous system and pursued trauma training in the form of Somatic Experiencing. More recently, she has completed 5 years post-graduate studies towards a Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice from the British Columbia School of Osteopathic Manual Practice.  This research study is the completion of her osteopathic training.
8 treatments are offered for which there is no charge and no payment.
For further information, and to find out if you are eligible, contact Jenny Trost.
