August 7th

Annalise Emerick

Wednesday boasted absolutely perfect weather for an outdoor concert! Just two days before Annalise Emerick and Tom Cadrin took off for a month-long tour of the eastern seaboard and Tennessee, the duo took to the "stage" of JP Licks for an hour of fantastic originals and covers.

Many of you know that Annalise performed solo last year at Murphy Square Courts (photos and videos), and it was great to hear how those songs have evolved since then. Plus, we got to hear new songs that will be on her second album (to be recorded this fall)!

Tom Cadrin was a surprise and welcome addition to the set, adding vocal harmonies, more density of guitar texture, and also some great instrumental solos.

If you weren't able to make it, you can now check out three videos from Wednesday's concert!

August 10th

VAVA & Borey Shin

After the day-long miserable downpours on Friday, Saturday's weather proved unexpectedly wonderful! It was blazingly sunny but boasting a nice breeze (sometimes overly exuberant). Between the Curtis Hall flea market and the JP Library's ice cream fundraiser/book sale, we had a nice crowd, and some tasty treats!

Borey Shin started the concert with a short set of electronic music. If you know Borey, you may know him as a keyboard/accordion player, so some were shocked to see him playing laptop!
For some, the music was otherworldly background music -- the sound of birds and breeze intermingled with psuedo-beats and suspended notes -- but for many others, the moment when the music opened up to active melody and rhythm elicited gasps of happy surprise from the audience.

Vanessa Wheeler, better known as the brains and dulcet voice behind local band VAVÁ, played the second set of the afternoon. Hers was another solo set, but she traded Borey's laptop and mini-keyboard for a pink guitar and matching shades.
Anyone who heard Vanessa's set know that her vocal tone and delicate guitar technique are undeniable and perfectly measured. And if you like that.... you should know that VAVÁ is releasing a CD in the next few months. "Like" her on Facebook to find out more!

Many thanks are owed to the Friends of the JP Branch Library for being easy collaborators and for being excited to help us in sharing JP's local music! We're looking forward to continuing the collaboration on Thursday. :)

Next Up, This Week

Sadly, there's only one August Noise concert this week... But it will be an excellent evening!
We return for one more concert at the JP Branch Library on Thursday night at 6:30. The concert will start at 6:30, and may go well until dusk! We're excited for this one, and we know you'll enjoy it, too.  (Those of you who were at the concert yesterday know why we're so happy to play twice in a row at the JP Library! Aren't they the best?)
Thanks again to the Friends of the JP Library for hosting these two back-to-back concerts!
