Latest Good Read
Van Gogh a Retrospective
Edited by Susan Alyson Stein
ISBN 0-88363-310-8
I’ve read a few books about Vincent Van Gogh and this one stands out. It includes letters and reviews of his paintings in response to his death plus comments by other impressionists. Reading them was to experience the time, it was fresh and timeless unlike being watered down through someones interpretation. I felt as though I was there in 1889 France. The content also cleared up misperceptions about his life; he wasn’t so much unappreciated as much as he insisted he wasn’t ready or worthy to receive acclaim. A great read!

A portrait of someone special in your life, or a family member, family group, pet portrait, or landscape location that is inspirational to you - commission a painting for Christmas, there is still time.

Opening in New York City

Beyond Borders - An Exhibition of Fine Art from Canada - 11 Artists

Smolder 36x55

Eleven sensual, reserved and introspective
figurative paintings were offered for this exhibition.

Shipping all of them was a nail biter. One very large tube made the 3000 mile journey. They arrived safely and have been re-mounted in time for the October 4-24 show. The Opening Reception is October 10, 2013. I will unfortunately not be attending. If you happen to go, I would love to hear about your experience!

Tasso Lake

Tasso Lake just about touches the western border of Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario. This was the view from my husband’s family cottage in the 1970's, a place that holds many fine memories…
Humidity is pretty much ever-present there; the sky is almost as moisture-filled as the lake.

Navajo Arch
I find the red sandstone of Arches National Monument in Utah to be a beautifully fierce place with searing days and freezing nights. Everything there is sharp, both in touch and appearance. In this painting the light is so intense it bleaches out what it strikes and permeates the dark reaches of the entrance to this slot canyon.
