The Dialogue Partners' team has embarked on our very own back to school learning and we'd love for you to join us on our reading adventure! For our first book club selection Managing Director, Stephani Roy McCallum, chose The Power of 'Co'. This book was written by Twyfordsan Australian firm that specializes in collaboration. We are learning just how powerful the 'co' can be in bringing diverse stakeholders together to create lasting and sustainable solutions. You can read an excerpt from the book HERE.

We are also very pleased to be partnering with Twyfords to bring two new, exciting courses to Calgary this November. See below for more information about this unique training opportunity!

STOP Collaborate and Listen...

When controversy, stakeholder opposition, resistance and complexity are involved in your projects it can be difficult to gain the  momentum needed for positive change. If public participation has gotten you the same results, then maybe something different than public participation is needed to get different results. Maybe it's time to try a Collaborative Governance approach.

Just what is Collaborative Governance and how do you know if you're actually doing it

Dialogue Partners is pleased to be partnering with Twyfords of Australia, leaders in community engagement, change and transformation an authors of The Power of 'Co' and Beyond Public Meeting to bring 2 new, exciting courses to Calgary this November. $1 billion dollar deficits
30,000 students changing schools
2000 teachers laid off

There was no easy answer and the consequences of any decision in this situation have long-lasting, significant impacts on communities, parents, teachers and students alike.

Leaders of the USA's third largest school system (Chicago Public Schools) were faced with serious  complex issues earlier this year. The suggested recommendation to close numerous schools, primarily in African American communities sparked an intense, emotional reaction and outrage among stakeholders. As the issue became more and more polarized and participants were clearly identifying with a particular "side or position" opportunities for collaborative discussion or dialogue became increasingly difficult. We wonder if there might have been a different way to approach these issues which may have created different results? You can watch news coverage video from Aljazeera
HEREWhat might they have done differently?

When is the outrage too big to continue?
When can you see the signs that all sides need to step back?

Opposition to fracking in the UK has reached epic proportions recently, where police fear site safety cannot be maintained, and where thousands of protesters have gathered in a tent city over the last 3 weeks. This is a perfect example of polarization, demonization of the "other" by both sides, and of increasingly entrenched conflict. We see this situation as a perfect opportunity to take a breath, step back, and seek the opportunity to create a different conversation grounded in civil discourse and respect for all. Some of the strategies to do this are found in the EOP2 course.

Thanks to the Daily Mail in the UK for these
picturesvideo and article about the escalation of the fracking conversation there.
