Holiness, Godliness, Usefulness

Lesson 47: Going Through the Motions?
The flesh will try to resist every holy thought, anything that might please God. The flesh wants you to think in general, not in specific ways about obeying God.
Eph.2:10 we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before hand, that we should walk in them.
Gal.2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Flesh wants you to be satisfied with going through the motions, checking off your duties. Flesh wants us to get into a routine: sing the hymn, sit quietly for the sermon, go to lunch.
Our mind should be actively working for obedience and against sin.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
