Greetings HHEC Fam!
Another school year begins and the HHEC has an amazing fall schedule to help you get through the challenges and celebrate the progress.
In this issue we are announcing the much anticipated Hip-Hop Education Think Tank III program. We have thrifty-five award-winning, notable speakers and presenters confirmed. The two-day convening will include panel discussions, multimedia presentations, exhibitions, film screenings, book signs, and networking receptions.
I want to also introduce you to our wonderful Think Tank organizers, Casey Wong - Think Tank Manager, and Moira Pirsch - Think Tank Committee Coordinator. They have been diligently working with Raymond and I since the beginning of the year. Their leadership is demonstrated in the commitment and passion they put into the work.
Our featured fellow is B-Girl Rokafella, who was recently featured in the Makers: Women Who Make America documentary series. Rokafella continues to shine her b-girl power and inspires us to forge ahead and make moves through life with confidence, excellence, and no fear.
The HHEC is proud to partner with Urban Word NYC Pre-Emptive conference, Gender Amplified Conference, and Yo Miss! Teaching Insidethe Cultural Divide. We recommend these events and hope that you will take advantage of the professional development and family activities that are being offered. Step to School! Own your rights! Learn and grow!
Finally, as promised, I have included photos from Cornell University's Hip-Hop Collection "Now Scream!" exhibition. In celebration of Wildstyle's 30th anniversary I selected a photo of the original Wildstyle film container, sneaker, cap, belt, and buttons. The "Now Scream!" exhibition is vast and covers a lot of the first two decades of early Hip-Hop. The exhibition will remain on view until February 4, 2014. Check it out: PreservingHipHop.org
Next issue we will highlight results from the Annie E. Casey Foundation Hip-Hop education case studies in Baltimore, MD, Providence, RI, and San Antonio, TX.
Paz and Respeto (Peace and Respect),
