We have had a few new employees join our university community this month:

He has gained practical work experience in the field as an intern while at BJU, as a freelancer and in web design for his home church in New York state.

Hannah recently relocated to the community when TJ accepted a position as SWU’s sports information director. She is a graduate of Asbury University (BA in history) and has coached high school-level volleyball while in Kentucky. Hannah also has a combination of experience and a great desire to care for people through her work as coach and nanny, as well as in the hospitality, retail and restaurant industries.

James Ross has been hired as HVAC technician, beginning Sept. 9. Ross comes to us with his associate degree in HVAC from Piedmont Tech and the needed certifications for commercial and residential HVAC work.  He has been self-employed for many years and we are glad to have him join our physical plant team.

SWU continues United Way participation

Last year, SWU had its best year ever with 34 participants raising $3,854 for the United Way. We partner primarily with the United Way of Pickens County, but our employees also give to their local campaigns throughout the state.
The goal of SWU’s 2013-2014 United Way campaign is to increase the number of participants by 10 percent and increase our giving level by at least that much. You can help achieve these goals in one of two ways:

1. If you gave last year, please consider increasing your gift by 10 percent over last year. So, if you gave $5 per month last year, consider increasing that to $5.50 per month.  If you gave $10 per month, consider increasing that to $11 per month. Those increases will significantly help us move towards our goal of $385 more dollars in 2013-2014. If you are not able to increase your level of giving, participating at your current level is still appreciated.

2. If you’ve never given, consider a monthly donation of less than the cost of a fast-food lunch - $5 (just $60 a year).

Check out the programs and services that United Way of Pickens County supports. Your generosity helps address a wide variety of causes in Pickens County. One of UWPC’s primary initiatives this year is funding for Family Promise, which partners with churches to provide temporary housing solutions for homeless families in Pickens County. To participate in the 2013-2014 campaign, use the United Way Pledge form, or to designate a specific agency or give to your local United Way, use the Individual Donor Choice form.  Turn in completed forms to Daryl Couch (dcouch@swu.edu) or Dana Frost (dfrost@swu.edu). Thanks in advance for helping us reach our goals for 2013-2014.
