The Silver Forge Newsletter No. 9

Life is grand!

And it's my pleasure to be in your email inbox with this ninth edition of The Silver Forge Newsletter. There's lots going on this month, with the continued release of my new 'Bubbles' collection, and a new place to find me and my work! I'm creating away in my workshop like mad, with many one of a kind pieces in progress. You can find pictures of these once they're completed on my Facebook page, and of course in my bespoke gallery.

A big congratulations to Helen, who is the lucky winner of the giveaway prize for September. These lilac and white Czech glass and sterling silver stacked earrings will soon be on their way to you! If you'd like a pair of these for yourself, you can buy them in The Silver Forge shop. Because you're one of my lovely Silver Forge Newsletter subscribers, for this week only until 14 October you get 20% off these earrings. Use coupon code NL9SUB20 at the checkout.

The Silver Forge Goes Indie!

I'm excited to announce that The Silver Forge has been selected to have a stall at the BrisStyle indie Markets! If you're in Brisbane on October 12 between 9am and 3pm, do come into the city to the City Hall on Ann Street. Stop by my stall, introduce yourself and say hello.. and see my wares in person! I'd love to see you there!

Tool of the Month

The Art of Creation

I've gone with something a little different from the tool of the month this month - not quite a tool, but a post about the processes behind creating one of my gemstone and silver rings. Read on!!

Solve a Mystery!

This lovely park full of sculptures here in Chermside in Brisbane is just divine, and yet I can't find out who is responsible for them! If you know, I'd love to hear. More about this mystery here!

If you'd like the latest Silver Forge Blog posts hot off the press, you can sign up to receive updates straight to your inbox, as they happen!

Worthy Causes

The Australian Marine Conservation Society

A big thank you to everyone who helped out this month -  10% of all The Silver Forge sales were donated to help recover our threatened species, stop overfishing and create marine national parks. You can read more about The Australian Marine Conservation Society and my fundraising efforts here

The Rural Fire Brigade Association

Here in Queensland, our rural fire brigades are made up of more than 34,000 volunteers, who not only protect us in times of wildfire, but provide a number of emergency support services to the community. A couple of events conspired to make this month's worthy cause come to the forefront of my mind - read more about them and the Rural Fire Brigade Association Queensland on The Silver Forge Blog

Gemstone of the Month

Rhyolite

Known as the volcanic form of granite, Rhyolite has the same strange beauty that so many 'non-precious' stones have. Give me a chunk of rock any day. Read more about Rhyolite here!

Custom Pieces

Moonstone and Sterling Silver Seahorse Pendant

I had such a lovely time creating this pendant for a customer to send to her dear friend in London for her birthday. It has everything I love - a sea theme, some beautiful interesting moonstones, and.. it's round. See more pictures of this custom made pendant here.

If you have an idea for a bespoke gift for someone special in your life, contact me and we can talk about what design you'd like! I'm always happy to hear from you.

Wild, Weird & Wonderful

Typewriter Birds

I have a lovely bracelet that my sister gave me and I cherish, made out of old-fashioned typewriter keys. The amazing Jeremy Mayer has gone a step further, and created beautiful sculptures from old typewriter parts. The wonderful thing is that these swallows are created using only bits he sources from typewriters, no solder or glue allowed! You can check out more of his fabulous work here.

Another month flies by! Is there anything you'd like to see more of, or any questions you'd like answers to? Why not let me know what you think? I'd love to hear from you!

Stay tuned for the October newsletter. I'll announce the winner of the September monthly giveaway then. Good luck!

Don't forget you can also subscribe to The Silver Forge Blog, and be kept up to date with what else is going on each week. Have a great month, and see you back here in October!
