New Horizons Byrd and Street House Concert

Thanks to my new subscribers and faithful friends.  I consider you to be friends, after all I have been communicating with most of you for quite a few years. Remember, a friend is just a stranger you have not met. I'm sending this to everyone on my list in order to keep in touch even if you are not in the Bastrop area.

Gene and I enjoy going to house concerts and venues like The Bugle Boy in La Grange, Texas.  If you like listening to music like we like listening to music, you will find these locations to be the best.  They are called listening rooms.

"What is that?", you say.

A listening room is a great place to listen to a favorite performer or discover new ones.

During the performance:

  • listen to great music with no interruptions
  • no talking allowed
  • no going in and out
  • no cell phones

At the break

  • visit
  • have a snack
  • have a beverage
  • go in and out
  • purchase the musicians' CDs and other items

We like house concerts so much that we are going to host a house concert with Byrd and Street!  We have been friends with Tommy Byrd and Kathy Street for quite a few years, now. Their music touches our hearts.  They are super folks, too.   Our concert will have a twist because I am an artist and Byrd and Street are as well, we decided to have an art show  (and sale) along with the concert.

But wait! There is more!  (How do you like that?) Gene loves to entertain. He will cook his delicious brisket and serve it up with all the trimmings.

Just imagine an afternoon of great music, art, friends, food and beverages in a beautiful location.  What more can you ask?

We recently went to a concert at the Angel's.  You can check out their website  http://arhaven.org for their next concert.  It is close to Bastrop and Austin.  They told me about this video on youTube if you haven't ever been to a house concert.

But wait!!   (Yet again, I know.)

Another exciting event is coming up in October. the annual Austin State Hospital (ASH) fundraiser. I have donated my painting, Aubergine and Company, for the art auction.

Aubergine and Company - $250 value
Pastel on Pastelbord, 9 x 12 inches
Framed in dark frame under museum glass

Plan to attend  purchase my painting and/or other artwork.  It is a fun evening with food, art and getting to know the artists.

I took the liberty of copying this from their website:

The Visions of ASH, Insights Art Show & Auction, is an entertaining, artistic, and thought provoking way to spotlight the works of our talented patients, as well as raise funds through the sale of art donated by some of the areas highly respected professional artists.  Participation and purchase of art will benefit the Volunteer Services Council of the Austin State Hospital. Our mission is to enrich the lives of children and adults receiving treatment for mental illnesses.
