TRN Allegedly Laying Off Staff
Initial report says business operations "suspended" at TRN.

Disturbing TRN Developments

Mass layoffs are confirmed as Program Directors nationwide are waiting for possible devastating programming news.  The last year has not been one of good news for independent syndicate TRN (Talk Radio Network).  About a year ago they lost major talk talents Laura Ingraham and Michael Savage after contractual disputes and then Phil Hendrie jumped ship this summer, citing major frustrations with TRN management.  Now, just days after making industry headlines for opposing the Dial-Global/WW1 Cumulus deal, TRN is garnering further headlines that have many PDs worried they will lose more of their shows soon.

Insider information is being reported by TALKERS, Inside Radio, and "Tom Taylor Now" that some staffers have not been paid and pink slips are being handed out.  Inside Radio's article claims they have a copy of a TRN termination notice where they say that most of their business operations are being "suspended".  The mass-terminations are being confirmed today by TALKERS.  There are also concerns, as reported by "Tom Taylor Now", that changes may be coming to TRN's satellite channel, given that they are contracted with Dial Global for their distribution and TRN has been on the attack against DG in the press and courts.  A report on Radio Discussions suggest that TRN's "America's Radio News Network" was no longer on Cumulus XDS this morning, but was still on DG's Wegener receiver.  Andrea Tantaros' show was live today and Rusty Humphries is expected to be live today, but for how many more shows?  In the termination notices, TRN's owner, Mark Masters, blames Dial Global for TRN's financial woes and is claiming he will release a statement today.

Many PDs have been frustrated by the TRN programming changes over the last year, which were generally communicated to affiliates very poorly by TRN.  If any of the speculated news about TRN turns out to be true, it may be the last straw for many of their affiliates.  If that describes you, then you may right now be considering other programming options.  May I suggest Free Talk Live?  We have been syndicated since 2004 and our syndicate, GCN, is financially healthy.  They are an independent syndicate, own their own building, are debt-free, and aren't embroiled in ridiculous lawsuits.  As you probably know, Free Talk Live is available to you live seven-days-per-week, 7-10pm Eastern.  See the bottom of this email for details on how to freshen up on our show and get in touch with me for any questions.
