Holiness, Godliness, Usefulness

Lesson 27: Soul = Mind + Affections + Will
Each part of your soul has God-given duties. Your soul includes your mind, your affections and your will.
How do you conquer a fortress? First, take out the watchman, so that he can’t warn others. The watchman of your soul is your mind. The mind stands guard over the soul: questioning, deciding if something will please God.
If your mind says some action is right, the affections desire what the mind said was good. Finally, the will carries out the action that the mind said was good and the affections craved. When each part of the soul does its job correctly, the result is heartfelt obedience to God.
Now let’s see how deception turns obedience into a train wreck. First, your mind is persuaded to believe that a certain sin is good for you.
Next, your affections hunger for it. Finally your will agrees to go for it. All the dominoes fall, once the first one is tipped over.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
