Village Updates

Africa Bags and all of you, our DONORS and SUPPORTERS, are building two new Community Development Centers (CDC’s) in Chintheche Village and Embangweni Village. Construction has begun and both of these Africa Bags groups are so excited to have a new home for their bag production!  Thank you all for your generous support of the project!

The Africa Bags Embangweni group has relocated to a small village within the town of Embangweni. The chief of Embangweni Village has donated land for the CDC to be built upon. During our visit we brought home the very first of this groups newest bags, The Ngoni Bag

Kamweko Village has begun building bricks for their new Piggery.  The group is using profits from their bag sales to purchase piglets, raise them and sell them for a profit.

Viweme Village has produced the first batch of Africa Bags Soap!  We are still experimenting with our ingredients but hope to have our soap products for sale in 2015!  Viweme Village CDC is nearing completion!  A concrete floor has been installed.  Final steps of construction include installing the finishing touches of doors and windows.  MANY THANKS to each of our donors who helped fund the construction of the Viweme CDC!  The process has begun to place our donors’ names on the bricks of the CDC.  Pictures will be mailed to each of you soon!

Engalaweni Africa Bags group has expanded to over 40 members!  We are featuring a SALE on the bags made by Engalaweni in hopes to increase our sales and increase the amount of overall profits returned to the ladies of Engalaweni!  Buy a bag and save a life!

The Africa Bags Chibanzi Group is thriving and has expanded as well.  This group totals over 30 members and makes one of our most popular bags of all time, the Africa Bags Reversible Shoulder Bag.
During our recent visit to Malawi we brought home several new selections of this popular bag!

and a literacy program. Both Kamweko Village and Viweme Village have started a literacy program focused on teaching our sewing groups to read and write English!

Donate to the Empowering Malawi project to help build bookshelves in Viweme Village and to give the gift of books and literacy to the next Empowering Malawi village!  2015 Empowering Malawi Calendars are on sale now featuring photos from the libraries within Malawi!

Empowering Malawi
Africa Bag
Zoey has headed off to college! And with her a brand new University of Arizona Africa Bag!  Zoey’s goals include starting an Africa Bags Club on campus and traveling to Malawi with fellow U of A students.  $5 of every U of A Bag sold will go towards the Empowering Malawi project and the addition of more Libraries and Literacy Programs in rural villages.  Buy a bag and teach a child or an Africa Bag tailor to read!

Enlightening Malawi
Our second born, Keely, has started her own project, Enlightening Malawi, focused on bringing solar power to the rural villages of Africa Bags!   The first supply of solar equipment has been ordered and we hope to implement the solar system during our next visit to Malawi!  Solar Power will enable school kids to study at night, introduce computers and the internet to Africa Bags groups / villages, and so much more!  Donate to the Enlightening Malawi Project today and help the Africa Bags groups and villages have a BRIGHTER future!

Educating Malawi
We have re-vamped our Africa Bags Scholarship Program!  For only $50 U.S. you can make a major difference in the life of a child in Malawi!   $50 sends a child to school for an entire year.  100% of your donation goes directly to the child you sponsor and their school fees.  The need for education is great.  We need your help.  Please Donate to send a child to secondary school today!
